I have finally decided to start using more natural laundry products. Right now, I just use purex and whatever fabric softner is on sale whenever I run out. I know that these products can't be good for the environment. Any suggestions?? I don't want to go waste the money (I've noticed that the more natural products are more expensive) and have it be crappy :(

i have tried a lot of the "natural" detergents on the market and have done quite a bit of research into which ones are vegan. my absolute favorite laundry detergent is by seventh generation (http://www.seventhgeneration.com/site/apps/nl/newsletter.asp?c=coIHKTMHF&b=88607). i love the lavender scented detergent (http://www.seventhgeneration.com/site/apps/nl/content.asp?c=coIHKTMHF&b=88607&ct=97089) and their fabric softener (http://www.seventhgeneration.com/site/apps/nl/content.asp?c=coIHKTMHF&b=88608&ct=97124). as far as dryer sheets, i still use downey, but sometimes use the lavender dryer bags available at trader joe's. i hope seventh generation will come out with a dryer sheet someday soon.

For laundry detergent, I use Country Save, which is supposively good for the environment, and is vegan. It's unscented, and all of my clothes come out clean. I paid about $8.50 for box that lasts for about 40 loads. I wish I had a store that sold Trader Joe's, because everyone brags about their products! As for fabric softer, I couldn't tell you, as I'm in the same dilemma there!

le sigh. isn't lavender bad for kitties? my kitty likes to sleep on my clothes on the shelf in my closet...so I don't want it to hurt her if I use lavender detergent and softner.. do you think this would matter?

I have pretty sensitive skin so I use Seventh Generation Baby laundry detergent and it gets my clothes clean just fine. It's unscented of course.

method brand found at target
i use all their supplies for cleaning and they smell wonderful
but much cheaper than that is going to my local natural foods market and buying whatever they have in bulk
