Get a load of this,

Deer Almost Takes Out Gov. Tim Pawlenty
By Associated Press
Thu Nov 3, 4:21 PMUPDATED 1 DAY 18 HOURS 52 MINUTES AGO

ST. PAUL, Minn. - He was antlered and dangerous _ and he almost took out Gov. Tim Pawlenty. As Pawlenty arrived for work at the Capitol Thursday, he and his entourage heard shattering glass and then saw a big buck charge past about five feet from them. The deer broke two windows at the Capitol before bounding off.

The state's deer hunting season officially opens Saturday, and Pawlenty is headed to the northwestern Minnesota city of Perham for his annual kickoff event.

Pawlenty said the parking lot incident was a good omen.

"We could have had the governor's deer opener right here at the Capitol," Pawlenty said. "If that's any indication, the deer hunting is going to go well this year."

State natural resources officials say the urban deer herd is much larger than usual this year. Ramsey County, which includes St. Paul, is considering hiring sharp shooters to thin the deer population along freeways and other well-traveled areas.

It's the mating season for deer, when rutting bucks sometimes charge their own reflections in windows.

Suffice it to say the guy totalling missed the point. I can't believe he called it a good omen. Hmm, so I guess the deer was knocking at the window to say, " ok I'm here, come shoot me."

Ugh. Tim Pawlenty bugs the sh*t outta me. There was an article in November 2005 Minnesota Monthly magazine about the 2004 Governor's Deer Hunting Opener. It was a fascinating read, and if it's something you can locate on the internet, I'd highly suggest reading it.

Deer hunting is a huge event in some parts of Minnesota. :( I remember that public school had more than a few "teacher workshops" (school holidays) strategically arranged during deer hunting season. It was not too uncommon to see a dead deer in the back of a pickup or strapped to the top of a car or SUV. Some gas stations would have bins outside labeled "Hides for Habitat". Most small convenience stores would have a spike in business this time of year.

Pawlenty was implying that the deer are so populous this year that it will be an excellent deer hunting season. That will not be an unpopular idea, and this incident will change very few people's opinions about Pawlenty.

Just my $.02
