The texture is very sausage like and maybe it would be good in a casserole or something but if you eat it plain..it tastes like licorice. I gave it to the dog.
I've never seen Boca Italian sausage. :surprised
I used to eat these in my lacto-ovo days. I really liked them.
I think the reason it tastes like licorice is that they likely use fennel in the seasoning since it's commonly used to season sausage. Fennel has a licorice flavor to it.
Now I'm hooked on Tofurky italian sausage. Sooooo good!!!!

So I take it then that the Boca Italian sausage is not vegan? :stinkeye:

Are these links or patties? I haven't tried any italian style sausage yet, and I'd really like to create a veg*n ripoff of Olive Garden's Zuppa Toscana. I used to LOVE that stuff.
Nope unfortunately they aren't vegan. Darn eggs. I find it a bit irritating.
Anyway, they're links.
Thanks so much for this thread! My husband and I have been looking for an Italian sausage alternative, since the "real" kind are made with pork, which is on our "do not eat" list.
I'm going to try to find the Boca brand.

I really like these even though I was never a big fan of Italian Sausage. Or any sausage for that matter. The bits of gristle and fat always grossed me out. Anyway, I put these on a hot dog bun with ketchup and jalapeno mustard. :lick:

The Boca ones DO have eggs, darn it all...
But the Tofurky Italian Sausage is VERY similar to the Boca and (according to my omni ex) also pretty "real" taste and texture-wise... I don't know about that - but I LOVE the stuff!!!!!!!!!!!
So - if it's sausage you're looking for, this might be a good option if you want it totally vegan...

I really like it and it is always a big hit with the family. Not as thrilled with the bratwurst, I must say.

Yeah, I know about the seasoning but I think they are using a tad too much. I bet it would be great though in sausage and peppers w/ sauce though..

I really like those. Of course, they not vegan, but neither am I(that's another story!) I eat them like a hotdog in a bun with mustard. YUM!
It is hard to get used to eating something that looks & taste(well kinda) like meat, but I still like to enjoy hotdogs, pepperoni pizza, etc.
I’m ovo-lacto so I can and do eat them. I usually just eat them without a bun but with a bun and peppers sounds very good.

Anything that even taste , looks, shaped like a sausage makes me want to:spew:
When I was a child, I refused to eat sausage that my parents made.
