There was this really nice thread about best ways to help environment in everyday lives, so now I am not going to be so optimistic and ask what are your faults connected to this? What do you do wrong? What can you still improve? What are you forgeting to do for the environment etc.?
I buy Alpro soy yoghurt which is in plastic tubs, that I can't recycle :(

Although I care about the Environment, that isn't my main focus.

I am generally conscienciuos about Environmental stuff, However, I don't even know what I do "wrong" since I don't pay attention.

I occasionally throw out 1 piece of printer paper because I'm too lazy to bring it to the bin.

I could probably put most of my paper waste into the recycling bin. It's just time consuming to sort everything, though. At this point, I recycle mainly newspapers and cardboard boxes and other cardboard containers, like empty cracker and cereal boxes. (That's in addition to my plastic and glass recycling).

I drive a car.

Also, I don't recycle as much as I should.:-/

At a certain level, being alive fits the bill.

Anthony11, that's true. We can only do as much as we can, without feeling too much guilt.

I agree, though overpopulation is a root cause of much of the planet's environmental degradation, and it's ironic that those who responsibly decide to not have six kids are in a way working to extinct their viewpoint.

Ironic... true-someone once said that 'a good vegan would be a dead vegan', and that's the point. You can't kill yourself to cause less pollution ;). You can't start hating yourself or feel guilty just because you have to live, breathe, use water etc. And it's an irony as well that only people who give a s**t and do something for the planet usually have such thoughts/guilt...

I drive too much, I keep a rescue iguana who requires tons of electricity, water waste, food miles, etc. I don't recycle as much as I should, I don't ride my bike because there is a hole in my back tire that I still haven't gotten fixed.

I take long showers, so I probably use more water than I should. And, although I try to recycle, my family still buys a lot of plastics (bottled beverages, etc) and city recycling doesn't always take plastic. :\

I drive a car (but it's a very efficient Honda Civic)

I don't shop at the thrift store.

Sometimes I buy packaged foods.

Other than that, I am pretty much an environmental saint. I compost (and grow some of my own veggies), recyle religiously, use natural cleaning/laundry products, bought a house in a place that my husband could take public transit to work (not buy a second car), I just spent thousands on energy efficient appliances (and don't use a dryer, instead we hang our clothes to dry in the basement), i have high efficiency low-watt light bulbs throughout my house, I kept the a/c at 28 C all summer, I buy about half organic food, I am a vegan, I wash and reuse plastic bags, etc. etc.

ok ok meatless, we know you're a saint

I totally forgot about chemicals. My parents are both omnis and don't quite understand this "environmentally friendly/cruelty free" thing, so most of our cleaning products aren't natural, other than my soaps and shampoos. We also have a habit of leaving things plugged in while not in use, or using too many electrical things at once.. it's not uncommon to have all of the televisions in the house turned on at the same time. I'm working on changing my habits, but living with them makes it kind of difficult.

Meatless, you're a great role model!

I live in this culture, that pretty much sums it up.

But I'll try to add some detail:

- I live in the USA, the country which uses the most resources and produces the most greenhouse gases

- food I buy at the store means six pounds of topsoil lost for every pound of food produced

- my electricity mostly comes from coal

- my clothes are made mostly from non-organic cotton, a crop very harmful to the soil

- I drive a car

- I use plastics every day

- I use wood from other parts of the country and the world

- I use metals from other parts of the world, some from China, one of the mosty polluting countries

- I use paints, which are very toxic in their manufacture

- In my business I use plastics and other toxic materials

- I take pharmaceuticals, which may be toxic to the water supply and which have depended on animal tests

- I throw away a fair amount of trash

- In my business I use delivery services including UPS and FedEx, which use airplanes, very polluting and wasteful of resources

I'm glad that you agree.

My husband and I were concerned about environment LONG before the veg*n thing... and it was environmental reasons that prompted me into veg*nism.

Uh, I do most of those things that meatless does (not a vegan though), but I sure don't consider myself an "environmental saint."

Seriously though, most people I know don't give a second thought to just tossing recyclables in the trash, and basically doing the opposite of everything that I do. and these are educated people.

I drive a car.

I run my a/c all summer long and most of the spring and fall - it's 90+ degrees here in southern Louisiana from April to November. *sigh*
