Since your stuck in the house you could get some exercise videos and do them in front of the TV. They have dance videos, pilates, weight training, cardio, etc.

If you have a staircase in the house, you're in luck; you can do some stair-climbing.

I use an elliptical trainer three times a week in the morning, and my husband and I do yoga (following a video) four times a week in the evenings. That, combined with portion control, has really melted fat off of me. :)

What type of exercise do you do? That might help people make suggestions.

The university here has a rec center that anyone can join. It's $35 a month and no contract. So that's what I'm doing. I'm going to tough it out as long as I can though. You might also want to check with the local Y if you have one.

I've also heard great things about elliptical machines. I've thought about getting one but I don't think it's going to do what I want it to do for me. And surprisingly (to me anyway) I've heard good things about the Gazelle. Just be sure you get one that's sturdy enough to support your weight. Or you can just walk around the mall if that's more your pace.

Like other people've said; it depends on what exercise you do already. There are too many options to mention without any sort of idea of what you like.

Personally, I train for swim competitions year round. Indoor in the fall-winter-spring, and outdoor in the summer. I also lift weights at home (a simple bench, a barbell upto 150 lbs, a pair of 25lbs dumbells, a mirror, and some stretch cordz are all I need and have), and do sit-ups/push ups.

It works for me, but that is what I like. I can't stand to walk or run, or go to a gym. I found what works for me, but you are going to have to find what works for you. Almost all sports can be done indoors (tennis, soccer, running, cycling, etc).

I do martial arts inside year round and ride my bike a lot when there's enought daylight. In the winter, I hook my bike up to a stationary trainer in front of the TV.

If our strike ends and I go back to work, I am buying enough proper warm clothes to cycle for a lot of the winter (obviously, I ain't biking in the -30C weather).

Find a decent set of warm clothes for the winter (long johns, snow pants, a good jacket, hat, scarf, boots, etc) and either walk in the mornings or walk at night.

With a good set of winter gear, you'll be warm while you are walking around.

My favorite season to run in is the winter... I usually run into 'how am I going to work out' when it is too hot outside, not during the cold. This may also be because I heart skiing and other cold weather sports.

If you’re worried about the dark, coerce other people into going with you. That also keeps you motivated and on schedule. (Usually--as long as who you go with is also marginally interested). You could do anything from as simply going for walks around your neighborhood, or enroll in a cross country skiing or ice skating course.

Good luck and keep us posted as to what you decide!

I have my bike on a track stand in my den and it gets used more inside than out! Poor thing, I dunno if she remembers what it's like to be free on the open road...

I just bought the Easy Shaper at K-mart. I plan on using that in the winter. Cost = $100

If you like music, you can make a tape/cd of your favs and use a trampoline. I paid $25 for mine at Sears a few years back and it's my favorite way to excersize!

You can do some yoga. I'm about to get back to doing it myself.

Since you are looking not to not necessarily burn fat, I would use free weights and limit your cardio.

When I am not at a gym, at home I have several sets of dumbells, several barbells and tons of plates for all of them. As well as 2 weight benches both do legs have a preacher bench and decline, one has lat pull down and I also have a contraption for calf raises. For cardio I have a treadmill at home.

Winter is the best time of year for exercise.

If you enjoy running, winter allows you to enjoy comfortable weather without losing much fluid. Winter is the best time of year for long distance running. Snow and ice can sometimes be a problem, but I've run all winter for years and there have been very few days where it was so bad that running was impossible.

Also, indoor pools are great in the winter.

Also, rock climbing gyms are great in the winter.

Do you have a yard? Put on snowpants etc, and walk around in knee deep snow. that is great workout. That's what I plan to do.

Also, like everyone else, i do yoga, cardio (on machine or video), and free weights.
