What kind of exercises can I do that will raise my heartbeat while my legs muscles are recovering from a massive running spree? I don't want to just sit around waiting for them to stop being sore- I need to be active! Any ideas?

I think swimming laps would be the best aerobic exercise while your legs are recovering.
If you have access to a rowing machine, you could do that (legs are involved somewhat, but different than the running muscles). Or spinning on a bike with fast reps, light resistance.
