An online auction offering the opportunity to kill a "trophy red deer stag" has been removed by the internet site eBay amid protests from an animal welfare group. Bidding had already begun for the right to shoot the animal, which was pictured with its large crown of antlers in an "enclosed woodland habitat" somewhere in Devon.

I read the article in the newspaper. I wish I could show you the photo they put under it. It was a photo of two hunters in a pick-up truck looking proudly at the most BEAUTIFUL (and when I say Beautiful, I really mean it, my heart began to beat faster) Stag with majestic and superb antlers. It had been shot. It was dead and lying in the truck. It was a heartbreaking picture. I saw the picture an hour ago, and the tears are still pressing behind my eyes.
How can those hunters sleep at night?

The animals that can be sold on eBay include aquarium or pond fish and snails; lobsters, crabs, shellfish and other similar creatures that are live when sold but intended for human consumption; and live insects, crickets and worms used as bait or feeder food for pets.
Personally, I don't think eBay should sell ANY animals of any kind for any reason. Harrumph. :brood: :stinkeye:

Hunting is like a mental disease. It erodes empathy and compassion until you no longer have a problem with shooting tame animals in enclosed spaces.
Good to hear it was removed from ebay.

That is just SICK...!!!
I'm going off eBay more each day :wall:
Ive seen rabbits feet and crows feet on there for sale and they also sell 'hatching' eggs. I think its irresponsible, a kid could buy the eggs and not have a clue how to look after them if they did hatch...
some pet stores over here cannot sell livestock because of 'impulse buying' which i completely agree with! shouldnt the same rules apply to ebay.. *humph*

I loveee ebay. They sell some pretty raunchy things on there though. And yeah, nice careful consideration on removal..But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad bit curious how I would look next to Tree Hugger :D

My pastor is a hunter and is one of the most (correction, THE MOST) compassionate man I know. If he catches someone at our church being judgemental, he'll give that person a choice: appologize and change your behavior, or leave.

That does not really constitute compassion so much as being strong ... err ... willed . . .

Isn't paying to shoot an animal for a trophy kinda like buying a medal and saying you won it?

What is even more sick is internet hunting. You hunt and kill from your computer. The Humane Society has an article about it:

I hope Lockwood gets what he deserves one day...

Why not just buy a bunch of feeder goldfish, but them in a barrel and get a shot gun?
