Prosecutors say the Andressohns starved Woyah to death by restricting her to a raw food diet, also known as a vegan diet or a "living foods lifestyle," feeding her only wheat grass, coconut water and milk made from almonds.
I don't like that the article writer thinks that the raw food diet and vegan diet are the same. I certainly branch out of the holy trinity of wheat grass, coconut water, and "milk made from almonds" every once and awhile.

I don't think the parents stand a chance in court.

If they only fed the kid those things they should go to jail.

I've just emailed them to inform them of their error in equating a vegan diet with a raw food diet.

That's not even a real raw food diet, is it?
And yes, they deserve to go to jail if that was all that little girl got.

If the child has never been to a doctor and the parents do not believe in medical treatment then how would they know that she died of a genetic malady?

If what is written about the diet they gave the child is correct then this is a horrible case of neglect.

I agree though that the article is badly written and highly inaccurate in regard to what a vegan diet is. But then the whole article is pretty messed up. The news story didn't even get the name of their attorney correct. The man's name is Ellis Rubin not "Rubin Ellis".

You guys also forgot they gave the baby enemas! enems! Whoa, i don't even know anybody who wants an enema.
But anyway tere was this one blonde bitch on Court Tv that was all , " i want to say first that i've been living a vegetarian lifestyle for almost all my life, alomst a lifelong vegetarian... but I've not gone to the extremes as the strict, fanatics vegans." She went on to spew about how the kids shouln't have been living a vegan lifestyle. But the funny thing is she was interview to nutrition specialists and neither of them blame the vegan lifestyle...but the correspondant still egged them on to say something about it. Ignoring the fact that the baby have been given enemas and only fed wheat grass juice, which appears to be more of the problem.

*sigh* This whole thing is sad, and it disgusts me that it's turned into what it's turned in to.

This reminds me of the episode of House, with the couple who fed their baby a raw food diet, and she was underweight and sick. I was all set to start throwing things at the TV, and then Dr House discovered that they had consulted a dietician before they started their baby on a raw food diet, and she was actually suffering from another illness. It was a refreshing change from the usual stereotype.

I saw that episode too and really liked it, even though I was an omni at the time. About "raw foods" though. Cooking does destroy some nutrients, but also disolves cell walls in veggies so our bodies can get to the rest of them. We can't digest cellulose. That's why I steam veggies...just enough to unlock the nutrients without washing anything away (and I hate mushy veggies).
