Hi guys, I just got a cute little packet from peta2.com and I read that going vegan not only saves animals but improves your skin, eyes, and decreases your chance of heart attack, sinus problems and obesity.

Is all of this true?

I have noticed a difference in my skin, that I will admit.

It should help with most of those. Eyes and heart attack have been clinically proven, and reduced obesity should follow naturally on a whole foods, plant-based diet that eschews junk foods.

Anecdotally, there was this one woman that always proclaimed out loud to others how amazing my skin is, though I found that quite embarrassing. I'm sure my skin isn't "all that," but I don't know of any scientific evidence to support improved skin quality, though I imagine cutting dairy and saturated fats has to help somewhat.

Sinus problems... some people claim reduced allergies, especially those eating raw diets, but my sinus problems are just as bad as ever. Though, I do attribute most of that to the Los Angeles air pollution.

Thankyou :)
If you don't mind me bothering you :( can you rec some good snacks that will give me the vitamins I need and aren't too fattening and loaded with calories?

Aside from a general feeling of wellness, the only thing i've noticed is that since i became vegan about 7 years ago, i've had maybe 2 colds. That's it. And during these years, i've been in university in classes with hundreds of students so i've had several opportunities to catch stuff. Prior to 1999, I used to get a cold or flu either once or twice a year, so there may be a correlation between my veganism and my ability to ward off viruses.

I noticed my skin was way better, not only with less blemishes, but the coloring too, within a week of going vegan. My eye color is better as well. The whites of my eyes have become a lot more . . . white and healthy looking. And I just feel good most the time.

Thanks :)
My step father keeps insisting that you can tell if a person eats meat or not by their eyes. And that I don't have what it takes and sooner or later I will eat meat again ( since I don't have 'vegan' eyes)
LOL.

The thing about sinuses clearing up is because a huge number of people have mild allergies to certain proteins found in cow's milk and they don't even know it.

And as for my benefits... My eyes did some pretty funky stuff when I made the switch... The outside edge of my iris turned green while the inside stayed brown (e.g. "hazel" eyes ;) ) when previously, they'd been solid brown. Neat stuff, hehe. May have been unrelated, but still odd.

My skin hasn't cleared up a ton, but my family has chronic skin problems, and even so, my skin is pretty tame for us. Not to mention, at 16, I'm just at the brunt of hormonal bombardment, so I think I'm allowed a little leeway.

:)

I've never had sinus problems, but I did find that after the change, I could run for twice as long as before (I'm a casual runner... 4km pre-veg, 8km after). Something to do with "cleaner" fuel for my body, methinks.

It's funny/annoying to read all this on a day where my hair is extra extra crunchy and frizzy and I woke up with 2 new breakouts!! I'm still awaiting for my beauty related benefits...hehe.
