I hope those mother****ers burn in hell.
I refuse to watch it.
But I bow my head and weep anyway.
I've seen some awful footage, but this is definitely powerful stuff for any jaded viewer.

:furious: That was horrible to watch. I don't shop at JCrew myself but I am going to make sure I tell everyone I know that does.

Hi,
I've watched not only the newest video but also the one by EAST and the Swiss Animal Protection group, which is perhaps even more? upsetting. I guess I'm trying to make sure I'm inured to the images enough to be a useful activist for animals, but I have to admit, it was difficult to sleep after watching. I've already sent messages by phone and email to J. Crew and told several people to join me in protesting the company. If you're interested, check out the J. Cruel site and they'll tell you if there's a protest in your area or help you organize one. I will say, though, that if you want to help animals tortured by J. Crew's suppliers, you must know how to appeal to J. Crew shoppers. This means DRESS WELL. Otherwise, fashion-conscious shoppers will associate animal activism with pasty, sloppy activists, a very unappealing image to the vain. Sorry to sound harsh, but it's really important to help associate animal activism with the sexy, fashionable mainstream, remembering that we all share the goal of aleviating animal suffering.

I added this gem:
Dear J. Crew
What kind of depraved people use real fur these days?
The people at J. Crew it seems.
What the hell is wrong with you? It's bad enough to use rabbits, but cats and dogs? Have you no shame at all?
As a 25-year-old with an income in the ____ range, I thought you might be interested to know you will be the subject of my own personal boycott, and I will ensure that everyone else I know, knows what kinds of despicable things your company is reponsible for. If you change your ways, I will change mine, but the ball is in your court.
Did I mention how disgusting your company is?
Sincerely,

Although I agree with the spirit of your message, I should probably add that there's no evidence that J. Crew uses actual dogs and cats, only that it sources its fur from China, and China produces furs from all sorts of horribly tortured animals, including dogs and cats. So when they say that they don't use cats and dogs, it really doesn't matter. They keep animals in horrible conditions and then often don't even bother to kill them before they skin them. The fact that we have had the opportunity to know how trusting and wonderful dogs (for me) and cats (for you, perhaps?) are doesn't mean that killing shy, fearful foxes is any less atrocious, as I'm sure you'll agree.

Of course I don't think any animal should be killed for fur! It is the rest of the public who generally wouldn't care, which makes it all the more shocking that they might be using dog and cat fur since the public at least cares (or pretends to) about dogs and cats.

They might be holding a protest at the J. Crew near you, if there is one. I wrote and asked if they were doing one near me and they answered right away. I hope you didn't think I meant that you cared only for dogs and cats! I just meant that even if J. Crew defended itself by denying the use of cat and dog fur their arguement would be begging the question.
By the way, Burlington Coat Factory sold coats with dog trim, confirmed by DNA tests and paid money to a charity to patch up its image. Dog and cat trim has been illegal in the US since 2000, but in several countries it allowed. Nonetheless, I have no doubt that mismarked dog and cat fur finds its way into the US still.

Can anyone sum up the link for those of us that can't stomach watching it? I assume it's something to J. Crew and fur. Thanks bunches!

Can't even watch it without be depressed and horrified for weeks, with it replaying in my head for years. Some people are so incrediblly selfish and uncaring that its hard to see how anyone can view humans as "civilized" or "superior" to animals. If anything, we should view animals as the most civilized, I have yet to see an animal rip up another animal without it being of importence.

Just by seeing all of your reactions, I don't want to watch the video. :(

I couldn't watch it either - sorry. But I did sign the petition. This was my comment to Jcrew:
I am deeply saddened to learn that JCrew is purchasing fur from China. Using fur in fashion is no longer relevant because torture and animal skin is barbaric and disturbing. I sincerly hope you join other leaders in retail such as the Gap and Banana Republic and pledge to no longer use fur. Until that happens I will no longer shop at JCrew and I will tell everyone to do the same.
(and I did send the link to most everyone in my email address book!)
Thanks for letting us know about this!

This month, peta is encouraging people to send dead flowers and hate mail to the "fur pimps" at J.Crew. I'm sending mine :)
I won't watch the video, but I already started my boycott of J.Crew a couple months ago when I got their fall catalog. Their fur of the season is coyote. I was extremely disappointed as it was one of my favorite stores. I've been shopping there for years. Their catalogs have been getting more disturbing. The one I got today has an animal product on nearly every page. Its full of leather, silk, endless amounts of wool, several fur items, deer skin purses, cow hair purses, and god knows what else. It made me ill. I'm going to have to write to them to stop the catalogs. I don't even want to look at that crap anymore.

...and the only way to make changes is to help out, spread the word, write letters, prove your ideas, and SPEAK. I saw this a few days ago....makes me sick.
I still don't want to go and watch, but if this video is about the China fur trade and the Swiss group who went to film it in China clandestinely, this was shown on TV at prime-time. I think the whole of Switzerland saw it including probably a lot of children.
The newspapers the next day were full of graphic images and I remember sitting in a café crying and the waitress was crying with me.

I think it's a good idea for you to abstain from watching it. It shows dogs and cats crowded together in small wire cages traveling on a highway and then being unloaded roughly (their cages were dropped from a few feet up). It then shows a cat (dead, thank goodness) being skinned. Then you'd see piles of dead animals and their skins. It's very short; not like the EAST, SAP video.

I don't think the same group shot the footage, but I don't know. Good for Switzerland for airing the other one, though. If only the US media had the guts to even report this sort of thing.
yes if only....
so true indeed
I'm not going to click on this link, but I did watch the footage available on Heather McCartney's site. The dog being murdered in that footage looks EXACTLY like one of my dogs. I start crying when I even think about it.
People suck.
