I'm so happy! I'm getting a dog! She's a shelter dog, and sadly lost one of her front legs. She's a little less than 15 pounds.
But....I have no clue how what all I need for my furry friend. Help me with my list. She's potty trained and will be an indoor dog.
So far I have.
Food bowls
Leash
Collar
Food? What kinds are veggie friendly? For now they said use "Science Diet"
Toys! This will be the fun part
A bed...or perhaps she'll just sleep in mine!
Shampoo and Conditioner...I can perhaps get this from work since I wash dogs for a living!

Dogs are the best! I commend you for adopting from a shelter, they are always the best dogs!
We feed our dogs Flint River Ranch. I don't think you can buy it in pet stores, we always have to order it online. But Science Diet is a great food too, we used to feed our puppies that, but our bull terrier has a very sensitive tummy, and kept getting diarrhea? I'm still not sure why, because our other two dogs loved it!
But your list so far seems great, you could always grab some science diet treats too!
Your going to be a great dog owner!

Awesome crystalteacup!! Shelter doggies are the best. Wow, I'm feeling all warm & fuzzy right now.
It sounds like you've got all the essentials. But fyi, no matter how many toys you buy, she'll always go straight for your most expensive shoes. As for food, I'm all in favor of fresh, vegan meals. I always tell myself I'll never feed my pooches anything that I wouldn't gladly eat myself.
And did you know the oldest dog in the world is a vegan? Google "oldest dog vegan" and you'll find a bunch of articles. Best of luck! And THANK YOU!
Congrats on getting a shelter dog!
No, change that. Congrats on getting a furry friend. :hump: I know you will both be happy and love each other like crazy!
As to veggie friendly food, I don't have a dog, but I've seen ads for these products:

I would add nail clippers, toothbrush and toothpaste to your list.
Sounds like a sweetie! And don't worry, tripod dogs get along just fine. Especially the smaller ones.

You must be so excited!! - and the pooch :)
I hope you can post pics!!
If you have steps you might want to get a baby gate so she won't fall while you're away.

OOOOOH, I love dogs. Wow, that's great that you're getting one. I wish I could. I can't. :( But i'm still happy you have one. :) I hope you enjoy her.
Dog take vatimans too right? If so, you can get her some of those. :)
I don't know anything else. Your list is good.
awwwww doggieeeeeeeeee
Don't have anything else to add, I just wanted to say congratulations! Rescues make the best friends. :smitten:

Well, it's been 2 days and Molly is adjusting just fine. She can go so fast with only 3 legs! Anyway, here are some links to some photos.

She is on a meaty diet until she gains a few pounds. :( But she'll be off her special diet in 3 months! I put her on multivitamins which I put in a 'meatball' :spew: But, she seems to like it.
She loves sleeping on our bed and our laps. It was so hard to go to work and school today. She's my baby and she follows me everywhere.
Edit: We will do training once she gets more adjusted, we don't want to start her too fast since she was abused.

There are theories.
My boyfriend writes about it here if you want to read. It's rather long.

she is so sweet!
Again, I would like to say I really admire you for taking in a dog with a disability. It's hard to adopt out the deaf and older cats at the shelter I work at.
terriers are so energetic, I sure she can do just fine on 3 legs.
blessings on you both!
I grew up with a daschund with a gimpy rear leg because he was hit by a car as a puppy. Until he got too old and arthritic, he raced around the backyard without the use of that leg, and lived to be 15 years old. That was one happy pooch. :smitten:
She's so cute!! I'm glad she's doing well!

Thanks doubly for adopting from a shelter, and for the rare and wonderful act of adopting one that isn't physically "perfect".

First off congrats on the dog, especially rescuing one!
As far as veggie friendly foods go, Science Diet is definitely not one of them. Not only that, but it's a low quality dog food anyway. The first ingredient is chicken-by-product, which is the feet, intestines, lungs, livers, beaks, necks, heads, and whatever else is leftover from a chicken. :spew:
Now, I won't ever make my pets be vegetarian just because I am (my dogs are on the BARF diet), so I don't know of any foods you can use but good luck finding one! :)
Ahh I am few days late with this reply though.
