I have the same thought as about your previous thread: that is some pretty strange class. An instructor calling dissenting ethical concerns "crap" and the participants harassing animals?? In addition to those things being unethical, I find it just odd that they are associated with education.

That sounds absolutely awful! I hope you're going to try to get out of witnessing the slaughter now? Poor calf. What a bunch of a-holes you have to associate with.

What's the purpose of ringing calves at this institution, other than the inevitable "accepted practice/animal 'science' education" prattle? I'm seriously asking what reasons you were given by the instructor(s) for performing this practice on one or more calves.
BTW, the halfwit prepping a tissue-invasive device w/alcohol then pouring same over an open wound needs some intensive entry-level refresher courses in medical technology, of any kind, animal or otherwise.

May I ask you where you go to school? I would report this class immediatley, with the details you provided here on VB- this is not something I have ever heard of in a wildlife management curriculum. I stared out as a wildlife management major and I assure you I didn't need a class like this to get my diploma. I'd really check into this.

I'd be choosing a new major or finding a new school.

The whole time this all was happening the mother cow was standing by the fence mooing frantically and they were throwing rocks at her to shut her up.
Why did they need to shut the mother cow up? Who performed this procedure was it other students at the school or professionals that your class watched?

 don't think i could have watched that. I seriously advise you don't put yourself through seeing the slaughter.
Maybe you ought to try to get this class removed from the requirements for your major. If they do not agree, perhaps you can get an animal protection group involved. Yes it would cause trouble for your school, but you would be helping future students like yourself not have to take the class. I would consider transferring. Really I would. You are paying tuition (if a public school, in taxes plus, whatever else you pay) for this. At the very least, I would complain about people throwing rocks at the cow. That is certainly not standard agricultural practice.

Sally,
What are you training to be? A vet? I think you may considering a new field of study. Also, could you break up your posts a little better with some punctuation and paragraphs? Reading your posts in a big block is really hard to read.
Thanks! :)

Perhaps the "universe" is telling you to become an Animal Rights Activist instead of your chosen profession.
What a disgusting thing you were forced to watch. It is just absolutely heartbreaking to think how animals are treated daily on our planet.
Makes me wanna go march right out of my house and go and smash up some laboratories as well as free some poor little calves from their certain death in a slaughter-house just for the enjoyment of some idiot's taste-buds.
Oh I couldn't have watched that.

Agreed.
It might be worthwhile reconsidering your career options, Sally.
No, I am hoping to work in the national parks system, or do something similar. I dont want to chose a new feild though, it is the type of thing that I have wanted to do for a long time.
I have two friends who got degrees to work with the National Park system, and now work for parks in our city, who didn't have to do anything like what you have to go through. They got their degrees at Michigan State University in East Lansing Michigan. If you still want to pursue your field, you might want to look at schooling there.

The guy who did the peircing was a professional, but students threw the rocks.
Professional what? My scariest thought so far is: some of the rock-pitchers will set their sights upward, toward this station in life.

I don't understand. This class should be removed from the curriculum, its not something necessary for what you want to do.
You want to work in the parks system so I don't know why you would have to take a range class? I was a wildlife management major and this is so uneccessary.
Sheesh. Really, it boggles the mind.
If it upsets you so much( and it definitely should)then why continue with this class?Isn't there another class you could substitute?Have you talked to anyone about what you've seen?

I'm not trying to insult you Sally.
You need to grow a spine and stand up for what you believe in. If you are opposed to this class and the activities involved, go talk to the teacher, not the TA. I feel that you have a right to do so. You never know, maybe there is someone else in your class who feels the same way and is dying to oppose it as well.
Why do you feel the need to defend a school that allows these activities to take place? I agree with others here, transfer to another school with the same major but doesn't require this abusive class.
If I EVER had to witness animal cruelty in a class, I would get the local AR group, PETA, anyone who would listen involved and make these atrocious deeds known to the public.
If you let these a- holes get away with such abuses, nothing will ever change. Don't be afraid to oppose the majority. What's popular isn't always right, and what's right isn't always popular. Think about MLK. If he didn't stand up for what he believed in, we'd still see a lot more segregation then we see now. I'm not saying go change the world, but with change, there is always gonna be a bit of opposition.
Good luck.

OK if you're bound and determined to do nothing about what's happening, why on earth do you keep posting about it here? What goal do you have? It's just upsetting people, people who are trying to help you. But you're determined to defend your school and its actions. All the power to you, but why bring everyone else into it if you're not willing to do anything about it yourself?
