View Full Version : Discouraging cats from peeing on my stuff?

Well, I thought that after I got my beloved kitty, Nassi, spayed, that she would quit peeing in places other than her litterbox. Turns out, I was wrong! She seems to be peeing in certain places just out of being territorial, but she does it really randomly and with seemingly no provocation. I know that there are some types of enzyme cleaner that get cat pee out of carpeting/clothing really well- where would I find these, and what brands work the best? Also, is there a spray or something that I can put on the carpet to deter her from peeing in areas where she regularly does?

Thanks in advance! I will be forever grateful to whoever can help me de-stink my apartment! :wayne:

They sell the enzyme cleaner in most pet stores--just ask for it. Have you talked to your vet about this problem? Perhaps the random peeing has a physical cause.

I'd have her tested for a urinary tract infection. My Cassie is prone to them, and I can always tell when one is coming on, because she starts to pee on my couch and bed.

How often do you clean out her litter box? Cats don't like using a dirty box. I have to scoop mine twice a day, or the brats will get in a huff about it. And if she has certain spots she prefers to pee, try moving her litter boxes to those spots.

We sell a product at work called See Spot Go. It is amazing. You can order it online too, and it's fairly inexpensive.

What kind of litter box do you have and/or where do you have it? Sometimes cats won't use boxes that have hoods or are enclosed spaces.

I also second the suggestion of putting her box where she usually pees, if she has a spot like that.

If she's peeing mostly on your clothes, you might be able to take care of the problem by keeping them picked up. One of my cats thinks any pile of clothing on the floor is a secondary litter box.

I finally had to give my cats their own bedroom. They sleep and spend most of their time in that specific room. They have their own couch, toys, and the floor is tile. Two of the cats (who were checked out at the vet) just like to pee everyplace. Most of the time, the male cat (who is fixed) would pee on ME. I would wake up and have a puddle of pee ontop of my blanket. Not fun. I tried using sprays that cats are supposed to hate, and trying several different types of litter. I even put diapers on the male cat because I became rather frustrated before I had my own place with his peeing on my blanket EVERY night.

The only advice I can give is try different types of litter, take her to the vet for a check up, or confine the cat to certain areas of the house that you don't mind cleaning. Maybe some kitty diapers are in the future if she doesn't have bladder problems? I know there are some sprays that cats are supposed to hate at pet stores, mine didn't seem to notice I had sprayed them on my blanket though.

You know what really, really sucks? Now that they have their own bedroom and their own couch/blanket, they don't pee all over the place!!! They just like peeing on my stuff!!
