"Oppose Rep. Pombo's Endangered Species Act Bill (H.R.3824)

The so-called "Threatened and Endangered Species Recovery Act of 2005"(H.R. 3824), introduced by House Resources Committee Chair Richard Pombo (R-CA) to rewrite the Endangered Species Act, contains several proposals which would cripple the federal effort to help endangered species. The legislation would create a series of loopholes that would enable some oil companies, developers, timber companies, mining corporations and other special interests – even federal agencies – to dodge the law."

While I'm not familiar with the current legislation, there are some issues with the endangered species act that upsets people.

Any law that allows the government to say "hey, that land you bought is now worthless because the government said so" will have some backlash.

I don't know if it is possible to change the endangered species act so that such occurances are less common, or if a strong endangered species act will trample the rights of some people.

But if it is possible to give the act a softer, gentler side that respects land use rights, it wil be in a form that will "weaken" the act in some peoples' eyes.

I guess what I'm saying is that I want to see the proposed legislation instead of reading someone's opinion on it. :)

Does anyone have a link?

Hopefully the endangered species act has got enough good press that enough politicians will vote to uphold it.
