My ex moved out of the house not long ago, and one of the first things I observed is that my dog no longer pees or defecates on the carpet. It's amazing to what extent and how our lives affect our pets!

 Good news! I agree that our lives do indeed affect our pets. I got off from work late last night, and therefore ended up feeding my fish and cats late. My koi was MAD and made big splashes each time she went to the surface to eat. It was like she was saying "It's about time, *dammit*!!!"
Glad to hear that your carpet's staying clean now, froggy. :)

Brandon - that's so interesting about your koi! I wouldn't have thought fish could have such a strong reaction, that's cool!!
One of our cats would pee on my ex's shoes... I never really made any connection, but she's never done it to anyone elses shoes... interesting....
animals tend to pick up on tensions in households.
Growing up, I had a cat who would pee on clothes left on the floor, or more specifically, on my mother's boyfriend's clothes.
For a while we just though she was bad about the litterbox, but once my mom and her bf split up, the cat stopped.
We always attributed it to the fact that that particular guy brought a lot of tension and chaos with him, and Keo always seemed to prefer a lot more order and routine.
Yeah, I will never understand how people say fish have short memories, mine always get pissed off if I feed them late or forget to turn on the light.
My birds on the other hand are really neat freaks, when I used to let them wander around my room they would pick up small things like staples and stuff and put them into piles on the carpet, then give me the evil eye anytime they saw me.
& My dog Max always behaves when I'm talking to Mark, well more then usual, usually he goes under my bed and goes to sleep, and when I'm not he jumps on me and wont let me move.
Animals are really amazing.
