It is your lucky day! 2 posts on being a flexitarian!
CONCORD, N.H. - Even after five years, Christy Pugh has no trouble sticking to her vegetarian regimen.
The secret to her success? Eating meat.
“Sometimes I feel like I’m a bad vegetarian, that I’m not strict enough or good enough,” the 28-year-old bookkeeper from Concord said recently. “I really like vegetarian food but I’m just not 100 percent committed.”
I feel that way about you too, Christy! :)
The above was taken from the first link. I was going to post what bruce freidrich said too, because although fake vegetarians, I mean flexitarians, annoy me, I do agree with what he said. (from first article) but I didn't want anyone to get irate with me for posting something from the end of the article.
So.... read it yourself!
:pibo:
That was my 1st pibo!
“To base our diet there, yes. Absolutely,” she said. “However, where the protein comes from in that diet, I don’t feel it’s wrong if you’ve got a great big plate of vegetables your protein is from a healthy, happy chicken, or a grass-fed cow.”
yeah, that chicken is real happy sitting dead on your plate lady! :furious:

So what's with the opening sentence. It's just utter untruth. It's like a Christian saying "I believe in "God" and am a good Christian and go to church all the time but once in a while I attend a Satanist get-together because I feel that's missing from my usual belief system"
Or it could be a Satanist who occaisionally goes to Christian church because they feel the need (I'm pointing out the improper use of defined words not the fact that Christianity is similar to vegetarianism and Satanism is attached to being omnivore ... my example is strictly about word definitions).

"Sometimes I feel like I’m a bad vegetarian, that I’m not strict enough or good enough,”

No you aren't a 'bad vegetarian' ..... you're an omnivore. If you want to call yourself a flexatarian that's ok by me but please don't call yourself a vegetarian. I'm not making a judgement except that you apprently don't have a dictionary and should get one before misusing words and definitions. If you want to eat mostly vegetarian all month except some meat now and then that's your decision but please don't call yourself a vegetarian if this is your diet. This word is becoming almost useless as a description (now it can mean you eat chicken ,fish and apparently now sausage ?)
I recall some model on the Conan O'Brian being interviewed and he mentioned she was vegetarian and she said a few words including that 'well sometimes I eat sausage and other things'. At least Conan had the refreshingly truthful reaction of making mild fun of this statement that it wasn't vegetarian.
--------------------------
"What do you call a vegetarian who occasionally eats meat?
If you guessed omnivore, you're not alone.
But you're not right, either."
-------------------------
Yes I am right by using the term omnivore.
omnivore = an animal that feeds on both animal and vegetable substances
However if everyone in the wealthy societies ate like her, the world would be far better off. But misusing the terms 'vegetarian' and 'vegan' only serve to dliute these words until eventually in decades to come they simply mean one who prefers to only get 1/2 (vegetarian) or 1/4(vegan) of their diet as meat!

If that's all it takes to be a vegetarian, then I've been a vegetarian all my life. :naughty:
I can understand people who want to eat less meat, but I don't understand why they'd want to be called vegetarians.

*wild guess* maybe it's the "coolness" factor.
Jesus!!! This would be a big big joke if it weren't so bloody sad.
You know, I've been thinking of giving up cigarettes completely, but still smoke a couple a week because I don't have the willpower to stop completely. So I'm going to tell everyone that I'm a non-smoker who smokes. Flexitari-Smoker, that's me!
And someone who has sex very occasionally, they could call themselves a Flexitari-Virgin.
Jesus Christ!!! A meat-eating vegetarian. Now I've heard everything!!
*Goes off to have my non-cigarette to calm me down*

How are vegetarians cool? I usually get so much crap about it, it make me even less popular with people. :(
I like the definition of "vegetarian inclined" - those who eat at least four "vegetarian" meals a week - that would included nearly everyone I know!!!

A stick.

Yeah, but remember, we're talking about "I'm-only-vegetarian-when-I-feel-like-it" vegetarians, not truly committed vegetarians who have to endure snide remarks about tofu from co-workers and relatives. When the chips are down, these so-called "flexitarians" will willingly stuff their faces with stuffed turkey because "Grandma made it".

Laughing my A$$ off... sorry, I know this is a serious thread, but that is the funniest thing I have read all day!!!!!!!!!!

haha EXACTLY !
Well... I will say this for the flexatarians: what they're doing does help them healthwise, and the animals also, to an extent. But I didn't get that (formerly)-happy-chicken comment either.

Sheesh.... what is with all the hate. If someone wants to eat a mostly meat free diet...thats great for them. I think its thoughtful of them to not use the term vegetarian, because we know how messed up things get whey those omnis start thinking vegetarians eat chickens and fish...
I just don't get why people take it so personally. These people are making an effort and they get more crap then people who worship steak houses
"Sheesh.... what is with all the hate. If someone wants to eat a mostly meat free diet...thats great for them. I think its thoughtful of them to not use the term vegetarian,"

The problem is that the article and the woman said vegetarian ...she said ""Sometimes I feel like I’m a bad vegetarian, that I’m not strict enough or good enough,”"
My problem with all this is the dilution and weakening of the words vegetarian and vegan to the point were products and restaurants and recipes and articles like this don't even know what the word means.
I don't disagree that she's doing something better than a lot of people with average diest but people shouldn't even hint at being vegetarian who eat meat.
If she wants to call herself a flexitarian then that's fine by me.

Next time you ask for a vegetarian meal and you get something with seafood in it maybe you'll understand.

I hate the term "flexitarian" because it doesn't MEAN anything. It could mean whatever you wanted. So why use it? Arghh.

 It's about as specific as the word "thingy."
I like the word thingy. It's quite useful.

I like it too. It's better that they call themselves that than vegetarian. Not sure why they even need a word for it since "omnivore" would get the job done.

Wow, luckly my grandmother is the most understanding person about my vegetarianism. I love you, Nana!

Sounds like a truly sick package in the refrigerated section at the grocery store.
