I have 3 cute little guinea pigs. One, Wild Child, has long crazy looking hair and she is definitely a wild one in personality. The second is white and brown and is very sweet, so her name is Docile which is very fitting. The third is solid black and has no name. She was the smallest and the most timid when I got the piggies, but now, she is a very loud wheeper. She is also very skiddish, worse than the others. I have had her for a couple of months and am having the worst time naming her. So...I thought I'd take the problem to all of the animals lovers on this board and see if anyone had a suggestion.

We used to babysit a guinea pig named Piggy Divine--I thought that was a clever name. Of course I was only 9 at the time....

How about a regular name like Sheila or Peggy?

I don't know...it's hard. My first guinea pig was named Fudge, but I always called him "piggie" (but done in a baby type voice) I don't know why naming this one little girl is so difficult. I was trying to find a name that reflected her personality, but I'm just at a loss. I'll take your suggestions into consideration, beccaboo.

She sounds kind of like a Betsy! I always think of Betsies as cute, shy girls with dark hair and pigtails. Of course guinea pigs don't really have pigtails, do they?

My pig's name is Piglet (so creative huh?) so maybe I'm not the best person to be helping with names... I had another pig named Mitzi which means "the perfect one" in Japanese.

I guess you don't want a typical "black pet" name like Ebony or Midnight...I think naming by personality is better a lot of the time, anyway. But it can be tricky sometimes! I think in this case I might be inclined to go with a "people name", too. What about Elfrieda (Elfie for short)? Penelope (Penny for short)?

I like the name Wild Child! :) Is she a Peruvian or maybe an "Abbyruvian" (Peruvian/abby cross)? Those are the cutest things ever!

i think sgetti suits her skiddishness for some reason.
but for a piggie i dunno..
call her kitty ;)

I had 12 guineapigs when i was younger..... they were called..... flash, splash, michiefe, cuddles, speedy-nibs, spotty-isuzu, marmalade, snuffles, paige, sammy, picadilly and pantha......

they all lived between 8 and 10 years....

but im the worse for coming up with names.... my most recent pets (some fish) ended up being called..... cat and dog... lol

Minibean - I have no clue what type of "piggie" that Wild Child is. I just know that she has long hair that makes her look like a young Goldie Hawn who just got out of bed! She is such a riot - her hair has attitude just like her personality. I love her! Docile was the one my daughter picked out. I could not have asked for a better match! FYI: I love the cavycages site. I got my idea for my "piggie's" cage (they room together) from that site. I am planning to remodel their home by adding a second level.

LadyFaile - sgetti is tooooo cute! Kitty is actually a cool idea. I have a snake named Fluffy and a cat named Toad.

VegiBob - 12 pigs! Whew!!!! cute names for them, too. Hey...your pic. looks like my black piggie. I love it!

beccaboo - Betsy is cute. I have a friend named Bessie and Betsy is close enough to make me think of her. I'll give that one a good thought!! :)

Kpickell - Timmy...hmmm, are you trying to give my female piggie a complex... :D You did give me an idea, though. Charlie, the girl on BBC's Ground Force, sorta reminds me of my piggie. Both look all sweet and innocent, but they definitely know how to get your attention!

Why is it so hard to name this piggie??? In the history of my having pets, I have never had this difficult of a time naming one. Does anyone know how to say guiniea pig in foreign languages? I had a toad once that I called el sapo since that was spanish for toad. Sorry folks for being so wishy-washy with her names. All the suggestions have been good, but I'm just soooo undecided. :(

i LOVE freda!!! i have a piggie named picasso. i named him that because he has a tumour :( on one of his eyelids and it caused his upper eyelashes to be really long and curly. he looks like something picasso would have created. his brother's name was/is gandalf. we named him this because he was grey and white. he died recently. we buried him in the backyard underneath our evergreen. he was a very sweet boy.

are you able to post a pic of the piggie? maybe we could come up with better ideas if we saw her. you know like how you can look at some people or animals and think they look like a certain name? maybe it's just me, and i'm crazy.

i occasionally get a kick out of watching strangers go by and guessing their names in my head "now he looks like a kevin!"

LadyFaile - you are too funny. You sound like one of my closest friends. She and her daughter will go to the mall and just sit on the benches and watch people as the walk by.

minibean: yep, it's a tumor. i took the little love to the vet when we first adopted him and his brother from the Helland inhumane society (sorry, issues with that place). the vet said that removing it would also require removing his eyelid!! thanks for the link! i understand that a lot of small animals have tumors because there is so much in-breeding going on in the pet stores. i don't know if this is true or not, but it's something i don't find hard to believe.

Okay...I looked at some Guinea Pig sites and thought of these two names: Sassy and Snickers What do all of you think?

My daughter also gave me what I consider to be a good idea. Our pig reminds me of the character that Cameron Diaz played in Charlie's Angels, yet the piggie looks more like Lucy Lui. Maybe I should name her "Loosey-Loo" That would be sorta cute.

LeeLu is very cute! Sort of a cross between Lucy Lui and Lilo from Lilo & Stitch. Hmmmm I may be getting closer to a name. :)

Okay...I think I've just about beaten this thing into the ground....My poor pig must receive a name.....so...here goes How about plain old Lucy? The reason for this is that 1) she has dark hair the color of Lucy Lui, and 2) she whines like Lucy from I Love Lucy. The other night I was watching her run around the cage wheeping like crazy until I got up and went over to see what she wanted. Well....she wanted me to get her some hay. I thought about how Lucy on I love Lucy would whine and whine until she got Ricky to do what she wanted. I thought...hmmmm...perhaps my piggy should be called Lucy, too. What do you guys think?
