Heather lost leg in J-Lo clash

Heather McCartney lost her prosthetic leg when she clashed with security guards at Jennifer Lopez's office.

It became detached when she was manhandled by J-Lo's security team as she tried to deliver a DVD of animals being killed for their skins.

Photographer Richard Corkery, who witnessed the scuffle, said: "I saw her touch her knee and I could see she was in pain. She limped to the ladies' room but it was locked.

"I found another door open which led on to a stairwell. At least she could have the private moment she needed."

Heather, who lost her leg in a road accident in 1993, recovered her composure and was able to leave.

She had been campaigning with animal activists People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals at the New York headquarters of J-Lo's Sweetface fashion range, which uses real fur in its clothes.

Her spokeswoman said: "It's true Heather's prosthetic limb became detached. Peta has been trying to speak to J-Lo for two years without success which is why they resorted to entering her office."

Sweetface refused to comment but a security guard said: "About 12 or 13 of them forced their way in. They were really rude and wouldn't leave when asked."

How did it work? I'm assuming Heather is a child of Paul? And I should care about her refusing to leave a building because....?

I think this stuff only impresses people who actually care what celebrities, wannabe celebrities, and spawn of celebrities do in their spare time.

I don't necessarily agree this was a publicity stunt, if the woman is AR active (or even active before her car accident as evidence of her AR commitment) and now she just so happens to have prosthetic leg, it ain't right to be judging AND joking about someone in that condition. I can't imagine AR being much fun as it is. (joke is only funny about other leg if being impartial/ impersonal and/or objective I guess).

not able to view at Alfiedogs link....... I don't think you had it typed or pasted out right Alfiedog.

I wasn't attempting to be funny. I laughed because I didn't realize they meant her prosthetic leg until i opened the thread. I honestly thought she lost her other leg.

I see I guess, I can see the joke (or irony moreover) of a kind.... People laugh for all kinds of reasons afterall.......

Publicity stunt.

I think that's obvious. About nine tenths of what PETA does is a publicity stunt.

I'm assuming Heather is a child of Paul?

Paul does have an adopted daughter (Linda's daughter by her first marriage) named Heather McCartney. She is usually referred to as Heather McCartney.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heather_McCartney

Paul met model and activist Heather Mills after Linda died. Ms. Mills was struck by a police motorcycle in 1993, and lost part of her left leg as a result. She is usually referred to as Heather Mills McCartney, partly in deference to her career as a model and activist (she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize) and partly to avoid confusion with Paul's adopted daughter.

The Ananova story refers to "Heather McCartney," but by this means to refer to Heather Mills McCartney (Paul's wife). A similar story in Ireland Online is titled: "Mills McCartney loses leg after row with J-Lo's guards"

From what I know about people with prosthetic arms, the area where the 'real' arm ends can be very sensitive.

I know 2 people with prosthetic arms, and they joke about it all the time, like how they'll go to buffets and sneak food into prostesis and take it home with them or get half off a manicure.

not only that, but where the prosthesis is attached, there are often various screws and cinches that hold the limb in place. wrenching that can remove the prosthesis pretty quickly, but also painfully.

of course it was a publicity stunt in general; i'm sure no one tried to loose a leg or tried to pull her leg off (as in the security). These things happen.

and it does make for good publicity (anti-fur publicity).

This thread somewhat duplicates a thread in the "Support" forums.

I'd prefer that one be kept and this one be folded in there.

Well, it is understandable that you (or anyone) might think that the phrase "Heather McCarthy" refers to the adopted daughter. Ananova wrote sloppily, in my opinion.
