My mouse, Sprite, died...

I feel really guilty. I feel like it's all my fault. I feel like I didn't do enough to make his life better. I took his wheel out, because I needed to fix it from screaching, and he was getting so skinny that I didn't want him to burn off more calories. He loved the wheel, and I took it away.

He lived alone. Which sucks for a mouse, but I didn't know what else to do. Getting mice neutered is risky, especially when they're older, and he was pretty aggressive for a mouse too.

I've had him since January. He wasn't that old :( Probably less than a year. They can live up to 1-2.

And this is really gross, but I don't know what to do with his body. I'll burry it tomorrow I guess...

At first my other mouse wasn't coming out of his bedding either, and I thought I'd lost them both.

Sprite was one clever little guy. I learned that the hard way, he was a little excape artist. Very daring. Also not afraid to nip you if you pissed him off. He lived up to his name. Always running around, climbing, jumping. He was also very beautiful. A fawn and white satin mouse. Good size, big ears. Black eyes. I don't know much about showing mice, but he was gorgeous.

i don't think you should feel bad.you took his wheel away because you were worried about him losing more weight.i know how easy it is to feel guilty about things after a pet has passed away, but you should really try to think of the good times.he may have been young but you gave him a loving home. i'm sorry that you feel bad & that your little sprite is gone but don't don't feel guilty.you did your best for him :)
i hope you feel better soon.
luv & hugs 2 u

:( Well he had a good life. I love little mice and rats:)

Why didn't you get another male for him to play with out of curiousity?

Male mice don't get along with other male mice, unless they're related. I tried my luck introducing him to my other mouse Zoom, and he attacked him. Not good.

I'm sorry, Sokara. But it sounds like you gave him a good life. I like rodents, although I've never had a mouse.

I adopted 5 gerbils from the local shelter a few years ago (they've all passed on now); one died soon after I adopted them, and I had to keep the rest in two cages because they didn't get along in one group. One pair started scuffling with each other (after I had them all for two years!) and I had to separate them, even though "the books" say that gerbils are happier in pairs.

I'm very sorry to hear about your little mousie Sprite. It sounds like you gave him a very good life, and the best you could, so you have nothing to feel guilty about. Most pet mice don't have someone who even cares enough to enrich their life by trying introductions to other mice.

I have had a number of pet mice in the past and have quite a soft spot for them, so I know how you are feeling. It is very hard to deal with their passing after such short little lives, but all you can do is take comfort in knowing you let them live as best as possible while they were here.

I'm very sorry! :( I had a hampster for about 2 years and it was hard to see her go. She was so sweet... So I can understand where you're coming from.

I'm sorry for your loss. :(

It wasn't your fault, though everyone always always feels that way when we lose a loved one. I felt bad for taking my dog to the emergency vet the night before he died because I felt like I had abandoned him on his last night. It was a stupid thought to have because if I hadn't taken him to the vet I'd have blamed myself for not doing everything possible to save him. You can never win emotionally when you lose a pet.

I used to have mice too, so I know what a joy they can be and how sad it is to lose one.
