So this weekend my friends and I went to a different city to go dancing. We ended up meeting cute guys, went skinny-dipping after the bars, and I ended up rolling around in the sand with one of them. Not as romantic as I'd hoped it would be, actually (sand HURTS when it gets into certain areas) and he was so cold from Lake Michigan that he didn't "work" properly anyway. But what I'm confessing to is that we were totally unprepared AND I'm not even on the pill anymore.

Please tell me how dumb I am. I need to hear it, apparently.

If its been under 72 hrs you can go get the Morning After Pill. So go do it, and then get tested for HIV in 6 months and in a year, and be more careful in the future.

Good advice, rabid! As a board elder let me just say - dang, there's really a very big part of me that misses the adventures (misadventures?) of days gone by...sigh. I sincerely hope everything turns out okay, though. But don't beat yourself up - heck life is very short, and we all need to be reminded that sand in tender spots is not what it might look like in the movies! At least he was cute...

Awww... ((hugs)) been there... (well, OK, not the Lake Michigan part and the skinny dipping and the sand...) but I understand the whole "Got-nekkid-and-did-something-stupid-WHAT-was-I-thinking?" remorse...

Rabid has basically the same advice I'd give you... I do think we learn from every adventure and misadventure in our lives, but hopefully the only lesson to learn is "Don't do this again"...

It's one thing to realize after the fact you forgot your pill that morning; it's another to forget you're no longer on it at all and didn't use a condom with a complete stranger.

Do you really need people to yell at you? It seems like you are well aware that you made a bad choice. I second Rabid's advice. Take a morning after pill if you can, get tested for HIV, and learn from your mistake.

So you're saying you used no protection at all? Not even a condom?

You need to get tested for ALL STDs, not just HIV. Some STDs, like herpes, are not always included in a "standard" screening so you need to specifically request that you be tested for them (in the case of herpes, a type specific blood test done at least 3 months after initial exposure). I am pretty sure there are others that you have to specifically request, too (not sure which ones - maybe HPV or one of the Hepatitis?)

Hopefully you'll be lucky enough to come out of this unharmed and will be more careful in the future.

Well thanks everyone. And the variety of responses! I feel ashamed, empowered, stupid and cool all at the same time.

But yes, my doc gave me the morning after pill (just in case) and we'll follow up with testing at my next exam.

Skinny-dipping: very fun. Sand: not so fun at all. Not even knowing the guy's last name: horrible.

No more Dirty Girl Scouts for me. Or, at least not 5 of them in a three hour period...
