Help!
I'll be having a colonoscopy soon, and I have to have clear liquids all day the day before!
Can some one give me some ideas? The Doctor suggests broth, tea, water, gatorade, jello. (no red food coloring).
Does anyone have any other suggestions? How can I sike myself up for this? It's 10 days a way and I'm constantly thinking about being with out food for the entire day! I'm one of those people that wakes up and immediately goes to the kitchen to eat something. I snack all day long!
This is coming from someone that LOVES to eat!
Thanks in advance!

I like Veggie Broth. And you could even have popsicles! :)

The unofficial nursing definition for 'clear foods/liquids': if you can hold a newspaper behind the food item and still see the print, then it's okay.
I'd take another approach to this: if at all possible, try to sleep in that day and go to bed early that night. The less hours you spend awake, the less time you'll have to worry about what foods you can't eat. Good luck with the test, though. I'm sure we've all heard horror stories, but I've also known several people who have undergone them (parents, relatives, friends) and they say it's nothing to worry about. Most people say that the clear liquids restriction the day before the test is the most annoying part of the whole thing.
It's a good day to 'listen' to your body. I find that broth answers my cravings for salty foods, and fruit juices (like grape, apple, etc.) can answer my cravings for sweetness. And perhaps if you drink plenty of water as well (sipping water all day long), it could help you feel full.
I had one of those about 2 years ago. All I drank was gatorade. Do you have to drink the stuff to clean everything out as well?? I had some ginger and lemon stuff that was horrible to drink down.

Thanks for the tips!
I'm going to WF tomorrow to stock up on things I can drink that day.
And, yes I have to drink the horrid stuff the night before! I've never tried it, but hear it is nasty!
Cheers!

I have helped 2 people get ready for the test, it is really great if you can get a friend or loved one to treat you like a patient, and bring you what you want and keep you out of the kitchen. Moral support is priceless, but if not, just remember, if you cheat, they will know and you might have to do it all over again. Don't forget red dye is in grape too. Hard clear candies are ok too, as long as no red dye.
My sister and my husband said the worst part is the getting ready, neither one remembered the test, or had any pain afterward, matter of fact I took them both out to eat afterward.

One thing I forgot, if you can choose, don't take the citrate, get the prescription bottle of powder you mix with the Gatorade. Maybe it doesn't happen to everyone, but my sister had the powder for her first test, and she was OK, but they gave her the citrate for the second one and I have never seen so much vomit in my life, it made her so sick.

Oh great!
I can't remember what the stuff is called. I think it starts with a "N." It's powder in a gallon container that you mix with water.
YUCK~

They had my husband and sister mixed it in Gatorade Ice, and they both said it didn't taste that bad, my husband liked it. 64oz.
But just take it easy and I really wish you well and hope it all is easy for you.

Your probably talking about Nulytely. You can always ask for the flavor packets with it at your pharmacy where you get it from. You mix it with water and I've heard from many patients that it tastes better cold. Please keep in mind that once you add dissolve the powder with fluid, it is only stable for 48 hours. Good Luck.
:wall: :wall: sorry if this posts like a gazillion times, I was having excessive amounts of difficulty :wall: :wall:

OH MY GOSH.............not only am I having computer problems, clearly I can't speak properly either.
OK start all over.....
You are probably talking about Nulytely. If you get this from a pharmacy you can ask for the flavor packets with it as well, that is only if you get the Nulytely or Golytely brands. This is the gallon jug of powder that you mix with water and drink before a colonoscopy type test. I have heard from many patients that it tastes better cold, so I highly recommend that you mix it with cold clear fluid then refrigerate and drink ALL of it. Please keep in mind that once you have added fluid to the container to dissolve the powder, it is only stable thereafter for 48 hours. Good luck.
Sorry I'm a dork, I know but my grammar and English were so off in the first sentence and I got annoyed. I couldn't even understand what I wrote, so I hope the corrected paragraph helps. Please feel free to ask me any more questions .

Thanks ButterflyTina!
Yes!
That's what it's called. I mixed it this morning.
If I can make it through the day with only clear liquids, I'll be okay.
I am an "eater." I love food! I've never been one to deprive myself of solid food. Some people can do it so easily. I have considered fasting in the past, but have never tried it.
I'm 5' 0" tall, around 100 lbs, and I eat all the time! Luckily I have a fast metabalisim, for now! Hopefully, it won't slow down any time soon.
Thanks for the info!
Tomorrow is the day of the test. Wish me luck!
