Why do they have a bad rep?
What did they do?
Who claimed peta is bad?

Also, I saw some document on peta that "consumer freedom" wrote. Their little document that showed that they purchased a giant freezer looked conjured up to me. Oh, and who is consumer freedom?
Why do they have a bad rep?
Some people working on behalf of animal rights believe that PETA's at times- outrageous stunts and offensive ads have damaged the image and acceptance of animal advocacy and vegetarianism among the general public. Visit their site at www.peta.org and decide for yourself whether you agree with the ways they get their message across. There are no easy answers, each person has to decide for themselves.
On the other hand, animal industries, such as the meat and fur industries, hate PETA because they are among the most active animal groups out there, and are known to play hardball against companies they cite for cruelty. They also have conducted many undercover exposes of inhumane corporate practices, and have secured some images and information that embarrass and indict certain companies.
What did they do?
PETA-haters love to cite numerous distasteful ad campaigns and extreme-sounding soundbytes. There is also the question that some higher-ups in PETA agree with the actions of some more militant, underground groups. Visit their website and see how you feel.
Who claimed peta is bad?
The veg*ns and AR people who disagree with PETA's image choose not to support the group, but they rarely wage the all-out obsessive attacks that animal industry public relations people and other consumptive use trade groups and individuals do. We have seen some of the obessive attack mentality on this board lately. Consider the source, and take the ranting with a grain of salt.
Why did they claim peta is bad?
People who truly have the best interests of animals in mind and disagree with PETA (like Best Friends Animal Sanctuary) do not bother me. People who wage war on PETA because they want to protect their personal amusement and profits are something else, though. Generally, such folks want to see all animal rights advocacy disappear, but they just use PETA's radical reputation to "get a foot in the door" with listeners.
Oh, and who is consumer freedom?
A rather dubious group funded by the meat, tobacco, and restaurant industries. They fight anything that would put restrictions on the profits of the companies they represent. It has been discussed many times on this board, just do a search for it.
Oh, and who is consumer freedom?

I haven't claimed PETA is bad, but there are a lot of things I dislike about PETA. My top three concerns (reflecting the issues that are most important to me personally):
1. PETA supports Breed Specific Legislation (BSL is the banning of particular dog breeds from being allowed to live). BSL is directly responsible for killing a large number of healthy, friendly dogs solely because they are one particular breed (usually American Pit Bull terrier). But, to PETA's credit I see that they have taken a step in the right direction and have changed their websites to specify they encourage "breed specific spay & neutering legislation" instead of supporting all breed specific legislation.
2. PETA does not support No-Kill legislation and prefers to euthanize dogs and cats that have behavior problems rather than send them to rescue groups that can work through the behavioral concerns. I can understand when they euthanize very sick animals, but am concerned by the number of healthy animals that are killed.
3. PETA does not support Trap-Neuter-Release programs for feral cat colonies and prefers that feral cats be euthanized.
There are many things I like about PETA such as their promotion of Spay & Neutering, and adopting from shelters.

I hadn't heard that PETA supported BSL but I don't agree with that. However I don't support no-kill legislation for several reasons. None of which pertain to this thread. So its really a matter of personal preference. Another reason people hate Peta is because extremists will often commit acts of violence or distruction in their name.
Wulfgar could you please provide some sort of documentation to back up reason #1? I'd be interested in seeing that.

My main problem are,
1.killing 86% of the animals they take in
2.supporting ALF , the eco-domestic-terrorist group
3.paying for the defense of criminals, Coronado, Cook, Hinkle
4.end the hypocrisy
and till they abandon those I fire away everyday
Wolfgar, your a troll, sooner or later no one will listen or read any of your posts.. Youve posted 3x a day now since August of this year and EVERY post is about bashing peta in some way or another. You spend a TON of time posting against them and dont post ANYTHING else on this forum that is of use to any other members reading. Go back to www.bbq.com and irritate them for a while

In that case, I'm going post-haste to read the first Harry Potter book again. There are a few pages there about how to deal with trolls. I always turn to Harry Potter for advice on how to deal with magic(k)al creatures.

thanks guys. I thought the mommy kills animals add was WAY to extereme. And I had a pitbull, he was a sweetheart, he didn't try to hurt anyone. I do like that they spay and neuter animals. I think I'd have to know real evidence to state my opinion.

No no!! You're pronouncing it wrong. You've got to stress the "gar" more. Otherwise it doesn't work. Try again. It's "gar" like in "Wolf-gar".

WINGARDIUM LEVIOSA!!!:DNo no, that is to levitate or make flight.
Oh dear, the spell is not working. Maybe it's not a pronounciation problem. Maybe it's a matter for the moderators to deal with.
