Hi Hamsters, 20 mile run yesterday. I also took the kids to the beach, ahhhh...wading in the cold lake water felt so nice after the run. Went for a long walk on the beach too. Today I played kick ball....it hurt.

Hehehe, OK Captain, so you would be kicking my butt in a race down here then, while I couldn't breath through a 5K up there. Great run! Hey, when is your next race?

Hey, I never said I usually run up there. :) I was planning on doing the 10 miler in the mountain but my friends aren't usually campers and they wanted to go home Saturday evening so I just ran the 10 with my club this morning.

My next race is actually next Saturday. Heh. It is actually a 15k up in the mountains. :p Elevation 5000ft. It is a run around a lake. I'm already planning on the race kicking my ass even though it is only 9 miles since I usually just hike at altitude. We are looking forward to it though as it'll be a nice change from road running.

What was the elevation where you were at again? And how much slower did you find yourself running at?

Nice run btw. Do you get to start the taper now or are you doing another 20 miler in 2 weeks?

Rest today.

Captain, Where we were at in the parks was 7000 to 8000 feet...where I live it is about 750 feet. It slowed me down by at least a minute or two. I had to stop and walk on my three and four mile runs at least three times.
Yes, I am tapering....ahhhh. The race is Oct. 2nd, it is the Lakefront marathon in Milwaukee. I am really excited to run this one because it is the first marathon I ever wanted to run, but due to injuries I was never able to do the full marathon (I ran it only as part of a relay team).
Well good luck on the 15K, I'm sure you'll do great having been at higher elevations more often.

Go Hamsters!!!:vebo: :bobo:

Today I had my first ever race! It was a 10km fun run. I ran it in 1 hour and 7 minutes - my best time ever. I was really worried about running in the Real World (as opposed to a treadmill), but it wasn't too bad. It was fun to run with a bunch of other people in the sun. Everyone was cheering each other on, and there were even two women near me who did a "high five" at every kilometre (they had signposts).

At the end of the race I was given a bag full of goodies, including a bunch of pamphlets with details of local races coming up over the next 6 months or so. I'm very much looking forward to entering in another one. Me and my friend are hoping to travel to Sydney next year to do the City to Surf (which I think is 10km). I've caught the running bug!

I live at 7,000 feet... I can't wait to move off of this mountain. They say if you can get 1 mile here you can get 3 anywhere else :D That feels like cheating.

I biked about 1.5 hours today.

Joining a gym soon! Yay.
