I have been noticing for a while now that every time I drink beer, the next day my pulse is racing. It is usually 65 beats per minute but the day after drinking it is like 100. About mid day it goes back to normal. It is kind of scary. Why could this be from? Does that sound dangerous? Should I stop drinking beer?:worried:

how about after drinking other alcoholic drinks ? hard liquor ? .... because it seems like it could just be the alcohol leaving your body, i know quite a few people that wake up with their heart racing after a night of drinking .....

Alcohol messes with your blood pressure and a few other things. Keep in mind that it's a poison to your system and the system has to work harder to clear it.

how much beer are you talking about here? Is this one beer?

Perhaps lack of water is part of it. Beer tends to dehydrate (I feel thirsty for water after a few). Maybe you go to sleep without enough water ?

I noticed eating too much white rice, whitish bread or white pasta would make my heart beat more noticably for a while after dinner (I figure it was because these types of carbs were quickly digested and a lot of sugar gets into the blood fast. Maybe beer does something similar to you?). I stopped having these types of things (switched to browns and whole wheat).

I'm not sure why it would happen the next day . Maybe you should ask a doctor (but from my experience some Doctor's don't know much about some things)

I guess I usually drink six beers or so in a night and I don't drink water before bed or anything. And I don't drink any other alcohol so I don't know if it is just the beer or if other drinks would do it too. My guesses have been that it is either my blood sugar crashing after consuming so much sugar from the beer or an allergy/sensitivity to something in the beer. I have heard that a racing pulse is a symptom of food allergies. Maybe I should ask my doctor.

I'm not sure about the pulse racing, but I'd never drink water before going to bed and the next morning when you wake up. It might be different for everyone, but I've always found it makes me feel a lot better.

hmmm...if you are foolhardy, you could experiment to see if other alcoholic beverages do this. Alcohol, in its wake, leaves stimulating (in a bad way) metabolites. Similarly, certain neural circuits will be overactive the next day in the wake of alcohol's depressant effect. Thus, having a racing pulse isn't outlandish, but for most people it is not pronounced at all.

I found that when I used to drink that the racing heartbeat was due to constricted blood vessels, dehydration, high blood pressure and toxic side effects. I am sooo glad I quit alcohol.

I cannot drink beer. Completely off topic I know, but I think beer tastes..like a wet dog smells.

I would say beer allergy because that's my problem. I have the same symptoms. It's quite a bummer.

I also dislike beer, but I've never been able to articulate how I thought it tasted - that's exactly it. Thank you!! :p

Yup. I've known several people who are allergic to beer or alcohol. Any other food allergies like wheat or corn?
