Bread and Butter Pickles

This recipe is suitable for a: vegetarian or vegan diet

Category: Condiments, Dressings, Spreads




Ingredients:

16 cups thinly sliced, unpeeled cucumbers
8 cups sliced onions
1/2 cup table salt
4 cups white vinegar
5 cups white sugar (or raw vegan sugar)
1 tbsp celery seed
2 tbsp mustard seed
1 1/2 tsp tumeric spice
1/2 tsp pepper
ice cubes




Instructions:

Combine vegetables and salt in crock. Cover with ice cubes. Let stand for 2-3 hours. Drain.

Boil vinegar, sugar and spices for 10 minutes in a large pot.

Add vegetables and bring back to boiling point.

Pack at once in hot, sterilized jars. Seal and store in a cool place.
