I'll admit, I haven't seen that before...

I have no tail.

Is this sort of thing more common among boys? It seems the examples are only males.

They had an actor with a tail in... I can't remember the movie, the one where Gwyneth Paltrow is fat, but the lead man has a spell over him that makes her look thin and beautiful.

I don't know if it was the actor with a tail or a stand-in, but I thought that was neat. :)

The movie was "Shallow Hal" and the tail is fake :). Actor was Jack Black.

Yes, Shallow Hal. Thanks. :)

It wasn't Black's character with the tail (it was his friend), but that's a shame that it wasn't real.

I asked the same thing, my friend found an x-ray of a girl, but who knows if her tail actually was exposed.

A tail????

This whole thread reminds me of what Hagrid did to Dudley in the first Harry Potter book.

Man, if I had a tail, I'd want one that looks like my cat Sabrina's tail. It's long and pretty. I love to watch her swish it. :D

It's sad most people have them removed...

"Oh here's your little copper hat! Oh and your little booties! Oh and here's your tail."
"My what?!"
"Nevermind."

It's official: There is a Family Guy quote answer for everything.

Why is it sad? It'd seem to me that that kind of thing could be really annoying and potentially embarrassing. There are many people who would be judgemental about that sort of thing, especially as kids. It's not like it's a functional piece of tissue, and it would be much easier to go without it.

I can understand waiting until the kid reaches an age to decide for himself, but I wouldn't call it sad if he/she chose to give it the chop.

i agree. as unique as it is, it makes practical sense to remove it.

Wow I've never seen or heard of this. Very interesting.

They don't get a choice to have it removed, just like boys don't get a choice about their foreskin. It's removed as an infant.

What if they wanted to keep a unique piece of their own anatomy?

I thought this practice for non-Jews and non-Muslims was not automatic anymore in the States. It's definitely not a common practice in Europe - very unusual in fact.

"The ratio of boys circumcised to boys preserved intact continues to decline in America. In 2001, it had further declined to a ratio of 55 percent circumcised, while the percentage of boys preserved intact had risen to 45 percent."

I think babies who are born with "tails" is as a result of the birth defect spina bifida. It's when the spine juts down too far and gives the result of having a tail-like feature. I don't really know any details about it...I just remember reading something about it when I was pregnant.
