Hi!
The Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego has 2 planes bringing 300 dogs each back. They have the first plane load accounted for but are looking for local rescue groups to take on some of the second plane full. If they can get 50 or more dogs to be accounted for by Los Angeles rescue groups, they will stop at LAX next week and drop them here for us.
Please contact Nedra Abramson at nedraA@animalcenter.org so let her know if you can take some, how many etc. and she will coordinate.
This is a great way for us to help save these dogs!

Once they get to town, would the animals be available for adoption or for fostering? Or is it too early to know? My brother's family is in Pasadena and they would love to adopt a small dog.

Duh! I just saw the title! I'm guessing they might want to reunite these dogs with their families down the road....if any come to Virginia, I'd love to foster....

You should contact them!

I'd be willing to take on two extra dogs if they come to northern Indiana.
I wonder if these are dogs that were just found abandoned, or if they are owned dogs waiting to be reunited with owners. I wonder whether microchips will help reunite any.

Are abandoned dogs coming to any other cities, do you know?

I don't know. I know there have been emails sent asking for people to foster. Maybe contacting Best Friends?

Yes, abandoned dogs (and other animals) seem to be coming to cities all across the United states. I know 300 dogs were brought to Indiana a few days ago, and a bus load is coming into my home town very soon. And several hundered went up to Michigan too, so I'm sure the same is true of most other states also.
They are warning though that these dogs may never get reunited with their owners so expect that you will need to keep them or find homes for them eventually. Also a lot of them are dogs that were already in the shelters in that area are the being dispersed first because they would be the first to be put to sleep due to the extreme overcrowding that's taking place now. So it might be harder to place them since they don't have the sad-luck story that the katrina dogs do, but they need homes just as badly.
