New Balance. I only buy New Balance running shoes. They come in wide sizes to fit my fat little feet and most are vegan! They're also good quality and have good arch support which is something I need.

Teva and New Balance. My pair of Teva flip flops have survived running through an amusement park all day, I swear they're more comfortable than my regular shoes. New Balance makes a good vegan shoe if you look for them, some stores carry more leather ones than vegan, but they're worth the search. I'd like to get the No Sweat sneaker from No Sweat Apparel next time I need new shoes.

Katt, Teva uses prison industry workers. that could be sketchy. I had my sis in law (Taiwanese) read over the writing inside a strap & she thinks it's a prison name!
Chacos, aside from one run of the fip flop like ones, are all made in Colorado.

What would be wrong with shoes made in prison? They gotta do something...

I thought prison workers were supposed to do stuff like that... they make things like license plates and clean and do all that stuff as part of their punishment... because not working and being fed and taken care of isn't really a BAD thing :-P

a lot of vegans tell me to go to payless for my shoes, but payless has a lot of leather shoes as well as anyone! and how can you be certain that the soles are rubber and not man made?! good grief!

Um...as far as I know real Tevas aren't made by prison workers; They are made on a Kabutz in Israel. My dad used to work there, and we visited it naught but five or six years ago.
I think it's Called Kibutz Mordechai David or something, you can look it up if you like.

I have really wide feet (like D-E wide) and Nikes fit really well! They use almost all non-leather/synthetic fabrics too. Just in case you are ever in need :)

Man-made shoes are fine for vegans
It should say someplace on the shoe (usually on the inside but sometimes on the bottom) what the shoe is made of. If the soles and upper are made of different materials it will say something like "Leather upper, man-made sole" The soles on shoes are almost always non-leather, it's the upper you have to worry about.
I love payless. :smitten:

I go to Kohl's for shoes (and 99 percent of my store-bought clothes!). I usually buy lei, mudd, or anything that says: All Man-made materials. I've only seen one pair of shoes by those brands that was leather, all the rest were synthetic.

the pic does not fo justice to an otherwise deplorable motive and intent.

Not to get too far off topic here, but someone asked about why it's wrong that prison workers are forced to work. I felt that it is important, albeit, off-topic, to answer this.
The problem is that when prison is treated as a place to put people away so they learn a lesson, they tend to come out the same person (at best) as they went in. Forcing them into factory work (or any other work) is not going to prepare them for re-entering society. This kind of practice is why our judicial system is getting out of control, because we don't attempt to reform or teach people appropriate social behavior--we simply put them in a place where our social expectations are completely lost, and ask them to become better people, more fit for our society.
As a teacher, if all I were to do is take my kids' recesses away everytime they misbehaved, I would have kids who never learn how to meet expectations, only what happens if they don't. This would not be very successful if I actually wanted to have my kids leave my room and behave appropriately.

so, letting prisoners sit around all day and watch tv is better for them? I, personally would want a job if I was in prison, it would make time go by faster!
