hey, what do you guys use for garden/work gloves? i just picked up some that are flannel with grippy palms. but they are pretty light weight, but fine for most tasks. i was just out cleaning up my garden and ran into a baby snake. no idea what kind it was, but it appeared to be non-poisonous. still it was striking at me. i had to kind of shoo it along while trying not to let the dog see it. :) anyway, if i had to deal with prickly things or ran into his mama i'd kind of like a bit more protection. has anyone seen non-leather heavy work gloves? hmmm...google yielded these:

hemp canvas gloves (http://www.rawganique.com/hempaccessories1.htm)

what are you guys using?

You can find heavy duty gloves here. http://www.magidglove.com/kevlargloves.asp

They can be quite costly!

holy crap! $80!! if i was a professional i suppose that'd be okay, but a bit much for me. heck, i'd just as soon buy another $6 pair and double up. ;) maybe that's the solution.

I have these canvas ones that have thick rubber molded right onto the palms, which might be what you''ve got already, but if not they are awesome. If a snake was upset with me I'd probably just work somewhere else until he moved on. They usually won't stick around once they've felt unsafe in a spot.

For really good garden gloves I'd pay $80 for IF I didn't lose them everytime I turned around. But then again if I paid 80 for them maybe I'd keep an eye on them.lol
I buy the garden gloves with the rubber palms, they work great for me in my rases and everything ealse I think I pay around 3 for them.

I buy garden gloves all the time because I wear through them so fast. I get the flannelly kind with little rubber bumps, or canvas ones, and recently got a kind with reinforced fingertips but I haven't tried those yet.

I'm assuming you don't want leather (if you're willing to wear leather, they should be quite good and reasonable cheap), so what I use are these rubber dipped cloth gloves. I bought mine at my local garden store, but I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Lowes. I doubt they'll last forever, but mine have lasted 2 years so far and provide a lot of protection for under $10.
