hey, I am a teenager without a good job and dependant on my mum for food. how should I avoid meat and eggs if i can't buy my own vegan food? there's a few carrots and apples and some salad, but nothing else! my mum is not happy about my decision and is pressuring me to eat more meat!

my mum just got in an arguement w/ me cause she says we're having yucky bratwurst for lunch, which is far away anyway, so I said no way, i'd rather have a pbj. she got all poed and said fine, you can feed your own darned self from now on so there. yay, now she can't complain about my food choices. but how the heck am i gonna keep healthy all by my 14-yr old self?
hmm.. I'm also a teenager, and my parents make me buy any of my special vegan food and products, but I have a job, so, I'm able to do it, though it's about all I am able to spend my money on. If you're not able to get a job at your age, you could maybe do some more chores around the house in exchange for them buying you more food. Also, go shopping with your mother, and encourage her to buy more healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and grains.. meat eaters eat those as well, so it isn't like they will only be buying stuff for you. If money is an issue, just focus less on more expensive options such as meat analogs. You don't need them, you can easily live off of fruits, vegetables, beans, grains, etc. If you don't know how to cook, I suggest you learn. Sure peanut butter and jelly sandwiches can be vegan, but you can't eat them for every meal - you need variety. There are plenty of great recipes here, and offer to cook for your family as well, if they're interested. Many people think it's difficult to be vegan, especially as a teen, but really, it's possible. There are many other vegans here, including teenage vegans who are more your age without jobs. Good luck with everything, and congrats on going vegan!

I'm curious as to how you've lived 4 yrs as a veg*n off of carrots, apples and salad.
But I guess since you've "quit the forum" [read: "still actively using the forum and currently online as well as posting subsequent threads"], you won't be able to answer that. Would you like your account removed as well?
