The suit asks manufacturers of these products to identify the dangers of high levels of acrylamide, a chemical that studies have found is created when starchy foods are cooked at high heat

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is studying the impact of acrylamide levels in food. In a March press release, the FDA said "acrylamide can cause cancer in laboratory animals at high doses, although it is not clear whether it causes cancer in humans at the much lower levels found in food."Its just sad that someone had to test on animals to prove that french fries are not good for your body. I don't think most people will change their eating habits because of this study.

I haven't had french fries in about a century. Doesn't mean I don't crave them every so often, though.

Too bad. :(

I don't think you'll get cancer if you eat a reasonable portion of french fries or potato chips, every now and then, but it has long been common knowledge that cooking food at high heat, ie, frying it, is a bad idea because it -- creates carcinogens. Eat potatos made with steamed potatoes. If you cut them into french-fry shapes, before you cook them, they cook n minutes. If you don't overcook, they maintain their shape and integrety. Then you can slather them in oil, or flavored oil. Yea, they don't get crisp, but they still tast good. Don't forget to save the water you cooked them in -- most of the nutrients end up in this water -- or in the oil you throw away after making french fries or chip in it, a few times.

I think most people already know this type of stuff is bad for you, doesn't stop most people eating it though, my brother eats a McDonalds Big Mac meal every other day on average, I dare not think what all that is doing to his health, I've told him he should watch Supersize Me but he wont listen to me :wall:

Different people value different things. Not all people make being healthy their life's goal. Youhave to respect their choices.
