Hello all.
I'm vegan, and my husband is diabetic. Unfortunately, most vegan recipes have very high carbs, which is a problem for him.
Prior to going vegan, I used Splenda (sucralose, an artificial sweetener made from sugar) in some recipes to cut down on the sugar (and thus, carb) content. I know many vegans avoid 'non-natural' foods, and so they would never dream of using an artificial sweetener in anything.
However, leaving aside the issue of 'natural' foods, I was wondering if anyone knows any information about the vegan-friendliness of Splenda. Now, I know of at least a few websites where so-called 'scientists' disparage Splenda - but when you investigate the scientists, you find out that they are obviosuly quacks and their claims are unfounded.
So, I was really wondering if anyone had any *real* information about Splenda - not this pseudo-science crap. I really do want to make an informed decision about whether to continue including Splenda in our diets.
By the way, I do know about other sweeteners out there, including Stevia. I'm really just interested in the topic of Splenda for now - perhaps we can discuss other sweeteners in another thread. Thanks.
