I am new to this board and in my past thread I let people know I am a true believer that fitness (not just bodybuilding, but physical activities) will be one of the greatest ways for not only us as vegans and vegetarians to stay extremely healthy, but also a great way of promoting this wonderful lifestyle. Teaching and showing other people the emotional and physical benefits of ALL types of exercise, will be a great motivator for others to enjoy vegan/ vegetarianism.
I know there are different ways to teach, but I would like to use my strongest assets and see what I can do.
We should be the role models to others who may need to see that "visual" of healthy, athletic fit vegans/ vegetarians to help them take the next step.
I know I will get a couple of posts that may not like my idea, but for those who are interested in my concept, please take a quick view of my website I just put up http://www.thevegetarianlifestyle.com/. Right now, on the website it just my beginning idea for all who are interested. My ultimate goal is to get enough "mainstream press" to CORRECTLY show the benefits of our lifestyle!

Dude, nuke the ALL CAPS and the white on purple lettering.

It actually hurt my eyes.

That being said, I am a complete backer of the live by example philosophy.

:)

I wanted to say the same thing, but I'd critisised his last post so much I was a bit loathe to. I like your idea, though.

Okay will work on the background. I will eventually get someone to help me design the website correctly. I am definetly not a website designer or want to be one.

I like the idea, too. I try to do something like that with doubtful people, especially family members, who can't deny that I'm strong and (somewhat) fit. (Or at least way more fit than they are.)

Great idea. Until you find a designer, you may want to go to a white background, times font for readability, not in all caps. And do a logo rather than the entire title in the image, write your title out in text the SE's will like you better IMHO. Even tough it's a new site, you'll be amazed how quickly they will begin to crawl.

I look forward to your new site once completed. Good Luck!

Maybe you and a guy named Jay on the boards might be interested to talk to one another (don't know whether he has any webskills though or whether he'd be flexible enough in his views to work alongside with comfortably or not) .....
I should point out I don't think Jay has "role models" in mind as such, at least he didn't seem to be directly interested in role models (fair enough) when I put that to him as one of my probe questions which I ventured to understand his ideas, which although on the same basic topic as yours, maybe be at odds if you or Jay in particular have totally your own agenda and way of doing things (but really who am I to say, try him and find out if you need a consort in the matter even if you each serve best as a one man show)....

Anyhoooo, go with it, good luck with it..... I look forward to seeing how you do :) whether a one man show or whatever... Cheers, VA.

ps, that is you in your avatar we can safely assume right!??

Thanks Va-goth-UK (I can't find those curvy things)

I live in NYC and know a couple of people I am going to ask first. I have to say things do get time consuming.
By the way that is me in the avatar- but I must say the picture got scrunched up and made me look extremely impressive. I really have more of an ectomorphic body. I am 5' 10" 180 lbs. In that picture it looks like I am 210!

Thanks Sea Siren,

I will take your advice. Like I said in my last post, everything gets time consuming. I have many different projects I am working on, I definetly need to work on the most important.

All the Best, and keeping working out hard!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I changed it so it will be easier on the eyes. I will have to wait for the right website developer before the real site goes up. If you get a chance take a look and tell me what you think of it for now. http://www.thevegetarianlifestyle.com/

If I can make a suggestion, veglifestyle, I really think you should reduce the text size. As soon as I looked at that page, my eyes hurt from reading. Most people do well with the default size, and if they have a tendency to need bigger or smaller font, they set their browser to do it for them. Also, line breaks between paragraphs are helpful for reading on a computer screen.

hey man, that yellow is not bad, and believe us Elena99, its smaller than it was- the text :D teehee.

I effng love the pic, bravo to that!! thats way better than just having the words by themselves!...except coz the pic is naturally dark, you are losing sight of the words which you currently have black, LOL!!!!!!!

none too taken by the pink, but thats not to say I have anything against pink. This shade just looks a bit faint hearted.
Combining yellow and pink always walks the line about looking slightly passe or sumting. (I say "passe" coz if I say that looks 'girly' that wud be taken as slander but u know wot I mean, lol -- being girly rocks too, errr sometimes!!....heh).

your yellow draws in attention so the pink whatever the shade in the background is not causing a big problem for me but I dunno, all I can suggest is exchange the pink and keep the yellow. Its a nice yellow.

that seems like a really great idea. sorry i'm bringing back up the thread but I noticed you said your from the city... as am I. good luck with everything, maybe I should submit myself for it! haha.

As for the actual site, it looks like your changed it a bit from what people said. The banner is nice, I think it accurately potrays what your going for.

My ultimate goal is to get enough "mainstream press" to CORRECTLY show the benefits of our lifestyle!

Any ideas on how to promote yourself to the media? I work in the mainstream media at a major daily newspaper as a writer (although not a "journalist"- long story) and have a degree in journalism so I understand a bit more than the average person what it takes for anyone to get some press. PM me as things progress if you want any input.

That being said, I promote myself as a good vegan example to the mainstream press each and every day. :) I'm not particularly fit (yet) but I eat very well, look very healthy, and for the most part I have overturned people's pre-set expectations of what a vegan is. I make vegan treats and take them in to my coworkers and the Food Editor. Progress can be made, it's just going to take time. :)

Hmm, nuts. I've played soccer for years, but I doubt I have any pictures. Good idea though.
