well basically i became vegetarian to loose weight, I've been doing it for about a weak now and I'm not really having allot of cravings or anything, I've been eating Thea's boca burgers and I'm kinda thinking about going vegan, but I'm kinda worried about not getting proper protein and stuff like that, so i was wondering is there some kind of book or something that would help me?

There's nothing wrong with eating healthier but I wouldn't recommend going vegan just to lose weight.

This is funny, I JUST posted a question asking if there was a connection between being a veg and losing weight. I agree with the poster above though. Going Vegan to lose weight probably isn't the best idea simply because of what happens once you lose the weight. Do you go back to eating meat and dairy again? For me, weight loss had nothing to do with my decision to give up meat.

A significant number of people go veg*n to hide eating disorders, that's more what I was referring to. Going veg*n as a means to restrict what you eat isn't really healthy.

Any lifestyle can be healthy if one consumes proper nutrition and knowledge.
-Educate yourself on the health benefits and concerns of this lifestyle
-Start taking a multi-vitamin daily, and a B-12 supplement, if you don't already
-Grab a good quality cookbook, or find recipes online...
-Start reading labels...always! You'll eventually get in the habit of reading labels on everything
-Never stop learning....when you have time, do research....find new things....learn new ideas..etc.

The vegetarian diet is naturally low-fat and quite healthy IF you stick to whole foods. Beans/legumes, whole grains, veggies, fruits, and nuts/seeds..... that sort of stuff. Some people do lose weight eating this way, and some don't but they do feel better and healthier.
I don't know if you do milk/cheese or not (some do, some don't) but if you do, I would recommend cutting waaaaay back on those items. Despite what the commercials say, dairy does *not* help a person lose weight.
That book that Michael recommended is a very good resource to have. I second his recommendation. :)

well you have all helped me allot, i do plan to stick to this even if i don't lose weight, i already feel allot better and I've got allot more energy doing this. So ill start checking out thoughs books. :book:

The recipe section here a VB is quite nice too!
Don't overlook it. It's nice to read comments left by members who have actually TRIED the recipes - then you'll have a better idea if they're worth trying or not... I've gotten some GREAT ideas here.

Losing weight is Calories in v. Calories out. A vegetarian diet is naturally low in fat, cholesterol and saturated fat (unless you're like me and have a freezer full of soy delicious ;) damn august sale at the co-op!!) but vegetarians eat calorically normal amounts of food.
To eat healthier, you may want to reduce the amount of processed food you eat (like boca burgers. they're a great quick meal! but not necessarily an 'every day' food), and increase your fruits and veggies. Protein should be the least of your concerns if you're eating enough calories in a day, make sure to keep up with your iron, B vitamins, and calcium.
