Hi I bought this Almay powder today and I want to be entirely sure it's vegan before I open it.
http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=44003&catid=9564&cmbProdBrandFilter=14180&aid=335972&aparam=almay_skin_stays_clean_po
I know it says no animal oils on the review, but I'm not sure if some of the ingredients like Diazolidinyl Urea, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, and Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate are the "vegetable-derived" kind. Any thoughts?
I'm also pretty sure this concealer is vegan, but I want to be sure:

Thanks!!
P.S. Anyone know of any vegan, carmine-free eyeshadows with that are non-animal tested? With a non-limited range of colors and not too pricey? :D

I did an Internet search. I couldn't find the exact ingredients in the concealer, though. However, I did find out that Almay does not test on animals, but not all of there products are vegan so watch out. I'll do a search on the exact ingredients you listed and see if I get anything.

This site was about the best I could find. All three ingredients you listed above are under the "May Be Animal Derived" category. If you only use vegan cosmetics, I'd stay away from them.

I emailed Almay and asked them about some of their specific products (powder, concealer, deodorant, blush, and mascara) and this is what I got back:
Dear (me):
We have received your recent comments and wish to thank you for your
interest in Revlon products.
When necessary, Revlon uses a small number of animal derived materials
for which there are no vegetable or synthetic equivalents. Among these
are collagen, elastin, hydrolyzed silk, beeswax, lanolin, and milk
ingredients. Revlon does not manufacture a product that contains pork
by-products.
For more specific ingredient information, we would request that you
identify the exact ingredient about which you have questions. Please
contact us at our toll-free number, 1-800-473-8566. Our office hours are
Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Any
representative will be glad to assist you.
Sincerely,

They told me about Revlon products....I assume that would apply to Almay too since Almay is owned by Revlon. I am definitely not assuming anything because I KNOW they use carmine in some products and they didn't even list that. I also faxed them, and I'm still awaiting a (hopefully better) reply. Maybe I'll just end up calling them, though I don't fancy being on hold. :wall:
These are the products I wanted to know about if anyone knows offhand if they're vegan:
Powder: http://www.drugstore.com/templates/stdplist/default.asp?catid=9564&cmbProdBrandFilter=14180&trx=PLST-0-SRCH-HV&trxp1=9564&trxp2=44003&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-SRCH-HV I'm worried about the Diazolidinyl Urea and the multiple use of the word "stearate".
Concelear: http://www.drugstore.com/templates/stdplist/default.asp?catid=9569&cmbProdBrandFilter=3483&trx=PLST-0-SRCH&trxp1=9569&trxp2=88215&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-SRCH Ach, so many ingredients!
Mascara: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=92149&catid=52312&cmbProdBrandFilter=28630&trx=CAT-0-PCOLOR&trxp1=52312&trxp2=92149&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-CAT-0-PCOLOR Pretty sure this one's alright, but can never be to careful...
Blush: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=92152&catid=9562&cmbProdBrandFilter=28631&trx=CAT-0-PCOLOR&trxp1=9562&trxp2=92152&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-CAT-0-PCOLOR Looks good, no carmine. Polyglyceryl - 4 Isostearate though?
Deodorant: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=75872&catid=48424&trx=PLST-0-SRCH&trxp1=48424&trxp2=75872&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-SRCH Stearamide MEA-Stearate, Stearamide MEA, PEG-25 Propylene Glycol Stearate. Hopefully that stuff is plant derived?
Please help if you know anything about these. Thanks!

I called Almay and they said all their ureas, stearic acids and ingredients where the derivative could be plant/animal are all from plants! The only animal-derivative they use is carmine which is in their eyeshadow (which stinks, because the only drugstore brand cosmetic I cannot find a vegan version of is eyeshadow!). They also said that Revlon uses more animal products in their cosmetics. :-/ But Almay is better anyway. :)
