So today I was looking at deodorant, so that's what my example will be here, but this actually applies to all products. So today I was looking at Tom's natural products, and I noticed they said "no animal testing" on them. But the deodorants are too strong for me and made me sick to smell so I looked at other things. There's this all natural deodorant stone and some other vegan deodorants (the stone is only $3!) but none say not tested on animals. But all of them say "no animal products" and "kosher". So how do I know if they're tested on animals? I have an all natural makeup remover too, that says no animal testing on it. But I also know that some companies that have signed PETA's no-test agreement don't have it marked on their products. I'm about to research their list again, but does anyone know anything on this matter, as a general rule?

Vegan deodorant and just vegan products in general, sometimes don't flaunt that they're vegan. What I would do is find a contact number or e-mail for the product in question, and ask them personally. Also, I read in another post that Nature's Gate deodorant is really good. Also, if something says natural, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's vegan approved. Look at the "all-natural" hippies that often use animals products. Many people consider animals to be a natural form of use, as well as harmful chemicals and toxins. Tom of Maine's deodorant has never seemed to work too well anyway. Another thing, I have found that everything PETA awards as Vegan approved might not necessarily true (correct me if I'm wrong) but when I e-mailed Avon about their products they were bragging about how PETA gave them an award for "Best Cruelty Free Make-UP", only to discover that some of it isn't vegan. Contacting the company would be the best thing to do (make sure you define what vegan is, you'd be surprised how many people have never heard the word) or you would hope that someone would know great vegan products that you can go off of! Hope that helped!

People can stick the label natural on just about anything. Just because something is natural does not mean that its good for you. Poisonous mushrooms are completely natural and will also kill you if you eat them.

The body shops products always say that it is not tested on animals.

Well, I'll keep that in mind, about the PETA list. Vegan products aside, my number 1 concern is animal testing (not saying I want to use something not vegan, just prioritizing here). First I want to know which brands/products are animal test-free and then I want to sift through what's non-animal. It's all so complicated and unnecessary. I'm shocked so many people refuse to admit it even exists. It's like how my sister informed me that if you use a cleaner that doesn't contain dangerous chemicals, like toilet bowl cleaner with bleach (which ate a hole in my floor when spilled overnight!), you won't get anything clean. The world is one big pool of uninformation I think. :(

You could shop at Whole Foods, none of the health and beauty products there are tested on animals.
AS far as the vergan deodorant goes, I swear by Liquid Rock by Kiss My Face, I reccomend it.

I got a deodorant stone from the drugstore. It works pretty well, but absorbs smell if you don't follow the directions and put it on RIGHT AFTER a shower. Heh... I learned this after my bf rubbed his on his sweaty armpits... gross...

I have a problem finding good deodorant period! The only vegan deodorant I've used is Tom's, which didn't work too well. Do you prefer gel, crystal/stone type, or powder? I used to be a gel, but now I'm more of a powder person. I've heard good things on VB about Nature's Gate, Jason's and esp. Mitchum, which is said to work well, even if your a pretty sweaty person like me-he he! I know that Secret and Old Spice are part of P&G which tests on animals, other than that, I'm not sure. Is there any brand of deodorant you really like and just aren't sure if it's tested on animals?

I use Almay Fragrance Free Clear Gel and it's great. Almay doesn't do animal testing, so I'm a big fan of their products in general. But I still went through several different deodorants before finding theirs. And what's great, is you can find it in any regular grocery store.
