So far the CDC doesn't seem very worried about it:
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/avian/gen-info/facts.htm
However, the fatality rate among humans has been fairly high (30 - 60% or so) among the few people who have caught it.
I have pet chickens, so I'm somewhat concerned about it.
Actually, the mortality rates in humans may not be as high as the media make it out to be. There may be people who get avian flu without realising it is avian flu and who recover by themselves. There are also some who may get the virus and NOT have any symptoms. It is still very unclear.
The mortality rates of those humans hospitalised are about 50%.
Avian flu has now reached the Caspian Sea and is being spread by migratory birds. It could become very serious and if the virus continues mutating, it could cause a human and avian pandemic. The world has always had pandemics and one is, according to medical history, long overdue.
