About one and a half years ago my brother was knawing on some kind of animal carcass and was indicating to me how good it was. I was upset and called him a hypocrite. He laughed and came to me to talk and we discussed how he wouldn't kill a dog and eat it and all that stuff.

Over the next year and a half we talked about vegetarianism when he came to visit (he lives in another city about 2 hours away). I loaned him books on vegetarianism (including "Dominion"). I wrote out a lot of my own thoughts and sent them to him. But nothing would get him to switch. He was convinced in his head but not in his heart.

Then I ordered "Peaceable Kingdom" and "Meet Your Meat" from North American Vegetarian Society. I sent him the videos a couple of months ago. Last week he came for a visit and told me he had been vegetarian for 2 weeks. He was trying to describe what kind of vegetarian and he was saying, "lacto... ovo... and something else... the kind of vegetarian that eats fish." lol. I told him that wasn't vegetarian but that it was a huge step.

So now he's my ambassador. His wife said she would become vegetarian for his sake but he said she should only become vegetarian for her sake. So he wants her to see the videos. I'm hoping he'll show his friends too. Especially his church friends. He could invite them over to watch "Peaceable Kingdom" and pretend it's a video about Jesus, lol. :)

Anyway, I think he's still kinda on shakey ground and I'm wondering if any VBers can recommend other good videos. I'm not really looking for gross videos but if they are good then that's fine. I'm looking more for emotional videos like "Peaceable Kingdom".

Please tell me the title of the video, what it's about, and where I can get it. And if you know of a Canadian distributor for your video that would save me duty charges.

I have yet to see Peaceable Kingdom, but I hear it's fantastic. An organization here in Florida that I'm a part of is having a showing and I can't wait to see it. The filmmaker will even be in attendance and will do a Q&A. How exciting!

Well, that's a really good one. I'm working on getting another one together, but it might still be a few years!

If you go to http://www.cok.net you should be able to order Hope for the Hopeless (excellent video) and another more recent one about egg production. They depict open rescues at egg farms.

Viva! should have some videos about dairy production.

People have mentioned the movie "To Love or To Kill" as the reason for their ideas changing about use of animals - you could search that.

The quote is from here: http://members.iinet.net.au/~rabbit/quotes6.htm

It is where I get all the quotes for my signatures.

In short, yes, Tolstoy was a vegetarian.

For some history on Tolstoy you can read this:
http://www.ivu.org/history/tolstoy/1889.html

Here is an excerpt from the end that I found interesting:

"Count Tolstoi, however, continued to maintain that the only way to abolish oppression and violence is to refuse absolutely to do violence, regardless of provocation."

Thank you this looks great. I can tell I'm going to be doing hours of research on this subject.

Actually, when I first read goatee's post, I did an extensive search for "To Love or Kill". Unfortunately, It's simply not available on home video. :( I seriously wish it was, because that's the film that converted me to strict vegetarian, and I'm sure it has the emotional power to convince others to do the same.

Do you really make AR type films? If you are making one please consider putting in a segment on fish. They are so misunderstood and so many "vegetarians" eat them.

Thanks Irizary for your tips. I'll check them out. And thanks Amy for checking into that one film.
