I had heard on the radio that there is a candlelight vigil in Carrollton, TX on the evening of August 20th to spotlight the plight of homeless pets. I will be attending the event with my 3 furbabies (My long-coat shepherd and my pestie have parade drapes I made for them that say "I was adopted from a shelter", sort of walking adverts!!) Here's the link for the event for anyone in the area interested in going. It looks to be very moving and informative.

p.s. a pestie is a poodle/westie cross:D
Pestie? :surprised
Maybe you should call your poodle/westie a poostie instead. :p

She is just so sweet and endearing that pestie (she has this cute little habit of kicking her back feet out behind her, scratching the floor with her nails, when it's dinner time) fits. The name 'pestie' is in no way derogitory. I love the fact that she is so feisty!! I saved her off of deathrow at the SPCA. She had been brought in as a stray and was going to be euthanized after her 3 day mandatory stray hold was up because she was aged at 10 and was deemed "not a good candidate for adoption". Personally, between me, you and the fence post, my roomie working at the SPCA gave me a bit of insider trading (she told me that Layla had been brought in and was in stray-hold. She was able to work it out with her supv so that I could adopt her). We are pretty confident that she had been a breeder from a puppy mill (long story, maybe I'll go into it later) and I am happy to say that in the 7 months she has been in our lives I think she has probably forgotten the life she led before. Other than that Layla is and always will be my little pestie!!! I refuse to think on the fact that I may not have her for very long (old age, bad health care up until now) and will only think on what I can do to make what life she has left as comfortable and fun as possible!! The girl has already been on some road trips and in a couple of parades. She loves meeting new people.
