Inspired by the 'What's for dinner...tomorrow?' thread. That is definately one good way of saving money, but tonight I discovered a another!
Leaving everything 'till the last minute!!!
If I visit the shops just before they close I can get stuff that is on it's last 'display until' date. This means it is reduced! It's probably more responsible to plan ahead (after all, you don't want to be left with only a few mushy reduced-price nectarines for your meal), but this is a good excuse for the lazy among us not to plan!
So...tell us what great deals you bagged!

I bought a stir-fry kit (basically chopped veggies and a sachet of sauce) for 9p! 9 pence!!!!
Together with some rice (unfortunately full price :(), you've got a meal!

stir fry kit £0.09 GBP
rice (about 75g, 1/13th of a 1kg packet) £0.07 GBP
So dinner tonight was approximately £0.15! Now, share your stories!

According to a conversion calculator I saw online, that's about $0.26 American. That is a good bargain!

For my lunch, I also got 'selected seconds' (what my supermarket cals the almost-out-of-date stuff) - a salad for 9p! (I added cucumber & dressing, so the meal was more than that, really, but still...)

My cheap, easy (but not super fast) standby is lentil soup. Saute an onion and garlic in olive oil. Add a few cups of veggie broth or water and some lentils and whatever veggies/grains you have in the house that need to be used up. DIRT CHEAP!
