lauratiara you are amazing! How do you find all this stuff?
You must spend all your time on the Internet.
"it's estimated that between 35 percent and 50 percent of U.S. adults now eat two to three meatless meals per week, according to the Vegetarian Resource Group, a Maryland-based nonprofit group."
3 meals, out of 21? WHAT? Are they seriously saying to more than half of Americans eat meat at nearly every meal? How gross!
No wonder going vegan was so easy for me. Apparently I ate a lot less meat than just about everyone else.
Gross.
""It's a clearly defined market segment that can't be ignored," said Todd Hultquist, spokesman for the Food Marketing Institute, an industry trade group."
Yay for that and...
"Vegetarians don't eat meat, chicken and fish."
Thank god they got that right.

i work in a grocery store and i'm in charge of the frozen section, so meatless products are definately gaining space on the shelves there. :D

I've noticed that too. Surprisingly I've always found the best selection (and price) to be Wal Mart. They seem to have everything. Most of the stores around here carry a good selection but none of them carry everything. There are a few items that seem to be carried at only one store.
For the record I no longer shop at Wal Mart. :)

I used to eat meat at every meal, except for weekday breakfasts. weekend breakfast always had meat. And lunch, and dinner. Always. That's how I was raised.
And considering a lot of people still follow the "midwest" style of eating, I don't find 3 out of 21 surprising... sad, but not surprising :\

.....3..out of....21....?
Before I was veg I only ate it once or twice a week!
But yeah, I totally notice an increase in the number of Veggie products. There's this really cheap store I shop at for grocieries, good prices but small selection, I never though they'd sell soy milk, but now, they do!
Somehow I think they were referring to dinners, but you never know.
I ate way too much frickin' meat before going vegan. It's nice to see the rise in meatless products. I'd like to see a greater percentage of them go vegan, since way too many convenience items have eggs or dairy in them for me.
