Man may transition smoothly, efficiently to a much better post oil era. However, it is frugal/better to be prepared(atleast mentally) in case there is a lag or this does not happen.

So far, a smooth transition doesn't seem to be in the cards, as alternative energy isn't set to take up the slack if the more pessimistic predictions are true. And society is not interested in making a transition to more frugal living.

Along with reduced oil prices, man may have to deal witth the effects of Global Warming or severe weather changes. Hence, this will become a Double Whammy for some.
