View Full Version : Anyone have A LOT of pets, like me??
We have *18* pets.......yep, you read that right, lol.....7 dogs, 8 cats, and 2 potbellied pigs.
The dogs all live in the house. Ranging from 15 to 110 pounds, they are: Pookapoo, Freeway, Rio, Ribbit, Dolly, Zildjian and Samson. We have 5 cats here in the house and 3 barn cats: Bump, Delilah, Stashe, Mischa, Moose, Archie, Betty and Midge. The pigs live in the barn, too.....their names are Ginger and Marianne (I think one of my husband's biggest fears is that I will one day rescue the rest of the seven castaways, LOL!).
We have six acres of land for everyone to run and graze. ALL of the critters are rescue animals....saved from either a shelter or the streets. Some of them have "issues" or health problems (Samson, our 110 pound Malamute mix, is epileptic and has serious cluster seizures)......but all are friendly and happy. They are my babies.
They make life a bit more difficult; it's rather hard to take a vacation, and we have tape brushes in every room and each car because we are always covered in fur, lol......but I wouldn't have it any other way. The joy they bring me is worth it all.
Anyone else have multiple pets??
well I live in an apartment so I guess 18 pets would be a bit much OL
I have no pets .... would like a cat though. I do have the occasional squirrel enter the premises.
Sounds like you are doing something nice for 18 animals ...good job!
I've got two cats and a hedgehog. My boyfriend and I actually agreed on a set limit of animals in the house before we moved in together (number of people in the house + 1=appropriate number of pets for us. Any more than that and animals get less attention than they need, and we get too stressed. Granted we live in the city, in an apartment. we'd probably relax the limit if we had 6 acres). The strange thing is is that it does take a bit of discipline to maintain that limit. It's the only reason that I didn't come home with a dog yesterday (o.k. that and the landlady wouldn't approved).

The only thing better than a potbellied pig is a potbellied pig called Marianne. Do you have any pictures?
And MEM owns a hedgehog! It seems everyone has cool pets except poor old me, whose pet-owning ability is restricted by cat-hating family members.

Oh don't worry! You'll be able have a pet some day! Seriously, for about 5 years I thought I'd never have a pet again.
Will posting pics of the hedgehog make you feel better?

It's worth a shot. ;)
Hedeghogs... :smitten:
When I lived with my parents, there was a time when we had 6 cats, a dog, and my various aquatic creatures. They didn't always get along. They did get to go outside, but unfortunately my parents don't keep their cats fenced in. Then over a few years, many of them died from old age or illness. Plus, I moved out with my cat and one remaining fish, leaving just one cat.
My parents were so depressed by all the deaths that they swore they wouldn't get any more animals. Then one day my mom stopped at the pound and saw a cage with two long-haired black kittens--our favorite kind of cat. They said there was a "2 for 1 sale". She brought them both home to my family's surprise and delight. They both popped out of a box and started causing chaos, so they were named, "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" after the Cat in the Hat creatures.
I'd have more except my one cat is very old and I am in an apartment and may have to move or go back to school and not have enough money.

I live in a house with 3 cats, one dog, and 3 goldfish. Until recently there was another dog and cat, but they died in the past year.
That's a lot for me, especially since there are also 6 people in this house including me. Growing up, there were 2 pets at a time, max.
The cats are Uglee, Peewey and Nirvana (named by children), the dog is Bootsie (mostly called Boo or Bootie), and I don't think the fish have names. I get along with the cats the best.
I have two cats, which I feel is just right for a small apartment. I wish I had more, and a dog or two, but there's just no room. :(

2 doggies and 4 kitties for me, my beloved little friends :)
Wellllllll, atleast you aren't like my former boss. She had 23 dogs, 12 cats, 4 ferrets, 2 75 gallon fish tanks, 2 smaller fish tanks, 1 canary and 1 bearded dragon. :p She actually may have had more dogs than that, I can't remember.
Right now I only have 4 cats and 1 big dog. I used to have rats, as well. I would definitely have more animals if it were doable.

Six of the cats, two of the birds, and all the fish live in the apartment. The other six cats, three dogs, and two birds live in the house.

When I lived at my parents house we had 4 cats an a turtle. When I moved, I moved with the two younger cats. The two old ladies and the turtle stayed with my parents. People thought I was crazy. I wouldn't have that many cats at once again.

Where I live I have 3 cats, 3 bettas, 5 goldfish. My roommate has one dog.
I would like to have my own dog at some point, but my roomie's dog doesn't play nice with other dogs so it will have to wait.
i have 2 dogs,2 cats, 2 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 2 hamsters, 2 zebra finches & 5 fish. so thats 17 in total :)
Wow! I have 1 dog, 1 bird :(..... everyday I look at the local shelters webpages...but sadly my yard is too small for another dog and I am allergic to cats.
The minute I see a parrot or fruit eating bird for adoption I will grab it...I have a Lorakeet and apparantly s/he can't share a cage with a seed eating bird....
My partner has 1 dog, 1 cat...so always too at the back of my mind is that one day we all may be sharing a house :)

If I had my way, I'd have a house full of dogs and cats. My husband wouldn't allow that though. As it is, I have a dog and a cat. I almost have him talked into letting me get another dog though.

We have 3 cats, 1 dog, and a ball python. If it wasn't so much work to keep the house clean and not stinking, I'd definitely have more cats (especially when I volunteered at the humane society). Actually, my oldest cat has forbidden me from getting any more puppies or kittens, saying she's too old for this ****.

Currently, we have a LOT of pets, but most of them live in species specific community terrariums. We hope to have a successful reptile breeding business and will only feed frozen-thawed to our snakes. Right now we have: 2 cornsnakes, 3 ball pythons, 2 crested geckos, 3 leopard geckos, 2 pictus geckos, 1 horned frog, 1 green tree frog, 1 red legged pan frog, 5 chinese firebelly newts (one is a baby that is still terrestrial and not yet ready to go in with his parents), 1 betta, 1 bearded dragon, 1 mouse, 2 syrian hamsters (father and son; and yes they live apart), and 12 boy rats and 11 girl rats. I will never breed my rodents, since there is such a low demand for them and the fact that most are used as snake food. Reptiles, however, are in demand :P

I had 5000-6000 at one point, mostly rodents. A peak of ~130 snakes, 21 birds, 5 goats, 2 donkeys, 1 dog, dozens of poultry.

I've got 12 pets in total - 9 rats and 3 cats. It doesn't sound a lot, but it certainly feels it sometimes, since we live in a one-bedroom flat!
