good afternoon !

I know this may seem odd (however, i'm not sure) but on day 2 of my vegetarianism, I am already finding that I am becoming more and more intensely turned off by meat. seeing it, thinking about eating, wondering why we (we = people) started to eat meat like this in the first place. i

did anyone else have a similar experience to this or the maybe something completely different? please share!

Yeah, I was surprised how fast meat entered the "non-food" category in my mind. It even smelled less strong. Now when I see meat in the grocery store I can't help but be reminded it's animal muscle.

I think it's interesting too, in hearing from some people, that (those who didn't start out because of concern for animals) sometimes their sensitivity to animal concerns grows greatly. I think that it's hard to see animals as individuals, and their immense sensitivity and intelligence, when they're cut up on your plate. But not having that cognitive dissonance allows some people to open their minds and hearts to what animals go through to become food for us. This is a quote from Kafka, made while admiring fish in an aquarium (reportedly): "Now I can look at you in peace; I don't eat you anymore."

Honest to God, I have to have my boyfriend hold my hand if we pass the meat isle. I totally avoid it when I shop alone, which is rarely. I don't know if this is silly, sad or sick or anything, but it makes me feel better.

I definately got that. For me, it took a bit longer, but I think almost everyone gets that perspective change.

I don't feel sick or disgusted by it. It's like the idea of swallowing a stone - not repulsive or attractive, but not food either.

I don't even see meat as food anymore,I may as well eat poo or something :D .My boyfriend became a vegatarian a couple years after me and he keeps telling me that meat seems disgusting to him the longer he doesn't eat it.

just wait until the smell of cooking meat or walking down the meat aisle makes you nauseous (omg i spelled it right on the first try!). sometimes if hubby is cooking meat (like ham in the morning) it's so bad i have to leave the kitchen...

I can't even let the BF cook meat in the house, the stench makes me so ill. And I cover my nose while walking through the meat sections of stores. And some things which I hadn't intended to give up (I never thought I could or would want to be all Vegan, but surprise, I am!) just suddenly repulsed me (i.e. tuna, shrimp).

I was struck in a store one day by how big their meat section was, and I just suddenly thought "OMG - all these animals died for people to eat them!" It was horrid.

My perspective changed strangely enough before we even went veg*n. The husband and I had some good long talks about it -- how it would effect us, the boys, etc. And I was trying to clean out the kitchen with a breakfast of bacon and eggs. We were watching the little guy try to tear a bite off of a piece of bacon. We broke, told him to stop and went out for veggie breakfast.

Reading that gave me goosebumps. I can picture that and I can imagine how I would've felt if I were there.

Yep. Little J was probably our strongest advocate. The child hated meat from the get-go.

And now - both of them are super veggie avengers! They'll argue any omni until their head spins.
