i saw "vegetarian chicken" bouillon that was vegan at ralphs, which is just a regular supermarket. the same brand had mushroom, but i don't think they had a beef. the box had chinese writing on it. have you tried a chinese market?
i thought that oxo beef boullion was vegan (but i checked like 3 years ago and haven't actually used it since then.

Carmel has vegan mushroom, "tastes like chicken", and "tastes like beef" broth powders. i've bought them at kroeger grocery stores and imagine you could find them at many or most mainstream grocery stores. they are in with the "regular" stuff, as they're not a "natural" brand, (and contain artificial colors, msg, hydrogenated oil and other deliciously healthy stuff ;))...thus they aren't carried by the likes of wild oats... but they're good!!

I can't find a recipes for beef broth powder, sorry.
I use telma for vegan beef boullion. The chicken contains chicken though.

It's a kosher brand so you have to go someplace with a Jewish customer base to get it.

I had a jar of vegan chicken boullion... and it didn't really taste like chicken, nor did it taste like anything yummy. It was just weird.

We make a lot of soup and seitan around here so I have experimented with a lot of broths and bullions...
Wild Oats and Whole Foods have one that I THINK is called "Better than Bullion" brand ("beef" and "chicken") thats pretty good - and vegan.
"Imagine" makes a really good "chicken" style broth - most HFS carry it, I think Whole Foods would...
I do like "Bill's Best" as for both chicken and beef thugh the "beef" has a slight "yeasty" aftertaste to me??...
Also "George Washington Broth" comes in little foil packages, and it's vegan - comes in a "golden" and a "dark" flavor - which almost, sorta, kinda works for beef and chicken.
There's also a brand called McKays that is very salty but still good, (works well in seitan) that comes in both "beef" (which isn't all that good in my opinion) and "chicken" flavor - which my kids LOVE when I make it into "chicken noodle soup" with noodles, veggies and seitan...
Good luck.

I could have sworn everything but their vegetable base isn't vegetarian...
Dixie Diner (www.dixiediner.com) has chicken & beef flavors. I haven't tried their broths, but I've heard they are good.

Rabid - eeep - I haven't checked in several years - it's entirely possible that they're NOT... I know I used to use the "chicken" variety some years back however - I had THOUGHT I was reading the label correctly...
Gracie - "Dixie Diner" broths are REALLY good, if a bit expensive (I can only find them mail order) - if you can get them though, definitely good!!
Also - "Knorr" makes a great vegetable bullion and "Hain" makes a (fairly tasteless) "chicken" broth powder as well...
