Hi Guys,

I am currently doing a project for my degree focusing on the environmental impacts of the bottled water industry.

If some of you could answer the questions below, and also put them to less environmentally aware friends and family (so the results are not biased) I would be very grateful.:help:

Many thanks

Kitgem

1.Do you buy bottled water regularly? If so how often (daily weekly, monthly)?

2. Do you but water more often for home consumption or socially e.g. when out shopping?

3. Does your household regularly use a recycling scheme provided for by the council/ the State?

4. Do you take plastic bottles home to be recycled or put them in the nearest bin?

5. Would you be willing to pay a few pence extra for the water to fund a more convenient industry-sponsored recycling system such as plastics-only bins located in shopping centres?

Thank you for your time.

(P.S. Due to being computer illiterate I can’t work out how to post a proper graph questionnaire so please forgive me!) :dunce:

3. Does your household regularly use a recycling scheme provided for by the council/ the State? Provided directly by my University with funding from a number of sources including the state.

1.Do you buy bottled water regularly? If so how often (daily weekly, monthly)?
Almost never.

Socially -- generally only if I find myself somewhere that doesn't have a drinking fountain/offer tap and I've forgotten my water bottle.

3. Does your household regularly use a recycling scheme provided for by the council/ the State?
Yes.

4. Do you take plastic bottles home to be recycled or put them in the nearest bin?
All of our recycling is picked up the same day as our trash. :)

A lot of our shopping centers and public buildings already have them, but I think making them even more convenient would be beneficial, so yeah.

Thank you for your time.

1.Do you buy bottled water regularly? If so how often (daily weekly, monthly)?
No, I don't.

2. Do you but water more often for home consumption or socially e.g. when out shopping?
I don't do either. If I think I'm going to be out somewhere where I'll need water, I'll bring my own container with water.

3. Does your household regularly use a recycling scheme provided for by the council/ the State?
Yes.

4. Do you take plastic bottles home to be recycled or put them in the nearest bin?
Whichever is most convenient. if I see a recycling bin and I somehow have a bottle that I want to throw out, I'll put it in the bin.

5. Would you be willing to pay a few pence extra for the water to fund a more convenient industry-sponsored recycling system such as plastics-only bins located in shopping centres?
I think bottled water is over-priced anyway, but that doesn't sound like a bad idea.

1.Do you buy bottled water regularly? If so how often (daily weekly, monthly)?
Yes, at least once a month; My husband and I go through eight gallon jugs quickly

2. Do you but water more often for home consumption or socially e.g. when out shopping?
Both; Have water, will travel

3. Does your household regularly use a recycling scheme provided for by the council/ the State?
Yes

4. Do you take plastic bottles home to be recycled or put them in the nearest bin?
I take them home. Period. When we were in DC and NYC a couple of weeks ago, I took bottles (and newspaper) from DC to NYC back home to Columbus.

5. Would you be willing to pay a few pence extra for the water to fund a more convenient industry-sponsored recycling system such as plastics-only bins located in shopping centres?
Yes.

I hope this helps. Also, in terms of recycling, I'll reuse bottles until they get yucky. Some of the bottles I brought home I'm reusing now as the older ones got yucky.

Socially - when I am out somewhere and thirsty

You mean bottle recycling? Or water recycling? Yes to bottle recycling. While there had been talk of initiating a council funded water recycling scheme into the area it still seems many years away.

Take them home usually.

5. Would you be willing to pay a few pence extra for the water to fund a more convenient industry-sponsored recycling system such as plastics-only bins located in shopping centres?
Some places already have these. I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to see them go in my local shopping centres though.

1.Do you buy bottled water regularly? If so how often (daily weekly, monthly)?

No, the most I would probably buy bottled water would be 2-3 times a year.

2. Do you but water more often for home consumption or socially e.g. when out shopping?

If/when I do buy bottled water, it would be in social situations like shopping or trips, that is if I forget to or can't bring my own.

3. Does your household regularly use a recycling scheme provided for by the council/ the State?

I'm not exactly sure what the question means, but I guess yes, we do recycle.

4. Do you take plastic bottles home to be recycled or put them in the nearest bin? Mostly take them home to be recycled.

1.Do you buy bottled water regularly? If so how often (daily weekly, monthly)?

I buy a 1.5L bottle every couple of months to use. I drink a lot of water,
and the wide-mouth Aquafina bottle is handier than anything else I've found for refilling and keeping with me all day. After a while I recycle / downcycle and get a new one because of the difficulty of cleaning thoroughly.

2. Do you but water more often for home consumption or socially e.g. when out shopping?

For years I bought filtered water from co-ops, etc. in my own large refillable containers, then I had well water to drink and got out of the habit.

3. Does your household regularly use a recycling scheme provided for by the council/ the State?

Yes.

4. Do you take plastic bottles home to be recycled or put them in the nearest bin?

I take all recyclables home with me unless I see an opportunity to recycle them when I'm out. I'm guessing that by 'nearest bin' you mean what in the US we call a garbage can or trash can, etc?

5. Would you be willing to pay a few pence extra for the water to fund a more convenient industry-sponsored recycling system such as plastics-only bins located in shopping centres?

Absolutely. I routinely pay more for products packaged in glass than the plastic-packaged alternatives, as glass can be recycled where plastics are downcycled, if not burned.

1.Do you buy bottled water regularly? If so how often (daily weekly, monthly)? no, it's expensive

2. Do you but water more often for home consumption or socially e.g. when out shopping? only if i am out and there is no other option (like no bubblers an such)

3. Does your household regularly use a recycling scheme provided for by the council/ the State? we recycle but neither the town or the state really have anything to do with it. so i guess the answer to your question is no.

4. Do you take plastic bottles home to be recycled or put them in the nearest bin? sometimes i reuse bottles. if i'm at home and i am taking the drink with me i will recycle it at home (like if i am drinking it on the drive home etc). if there is a recycling bin nearby i will use it.

5. Would you be willing to pay a few pence extra for the water to fund a more convenient industry-sponsored recycling system such as plastics-only bins located in shopping centres? if i bought water then i guess so.
