Whoa. Uh... I'll make sure Robert sees this, maybe he'll have an idea. We did have a problem the other day but I doubt it would still be affecting you.

Thanx Michael! I kept thinking it was a temporary thing with the server or something, but it didn't go away, and I kept hearing everyone talking about all the new pics.......

WonderRandy

avatars are fine, it's just the gallery

Robert

Randy.... go to My Computer on your desktop. Right click on your C drive and chose Properties. Then click Disk Cleanup. Choose to delete temporary Internet files AND all offline content.

Close all instances of your browser. Then come back

I am not sure of the exact keystroke combination, but its possible that your ISP uses caching proxies and they are not updated yet. You can try either of the following combinations to force the revised page so that you have a current copy in cache:

SHIFT + F5
ALT + F5
CTRL + F5

The F5 in IE is a refresh of the current page.

The problem is that you have the older cache of the page with the problematic picture still in your temp files. Once that is gone, everything should work fine for you again.

Robert, I'm just curious, when there are problems with cache like this how is it people are still able to see new posts?

Robert

Cause the script checks to see your last time here and then delivers you the updated version. It's dynamic, not static. That's how it knows how many new posts have been posted since your last visit :)

The problem Randy has is that even with the new pics that are posted... he has that one bad image. This somehow affects the rest of the script. I have no idea why. But after the pic was removed and I cleaned out my temp files, all worked again for me.

Robert, thanx for your help, but it's still no bueno... I clear my temp files regularly, so i didn't think that was the issue... so i don't know what's up... it doesn't work in Opera either...

Randy, hmm, I honestly do not know then. What can do, as a sort of last resort, is go thru all of the images in your windows temp folder and temporary internet files folder. And delete the images in there.

I recall you mentioning something about getting auto logged out every 10 minutes or so. The entire VB script uses session cookies as well as persistent cookies to keep you logged in. So, I am wondering since the gallery is set to not allow any non-registered user to view the pics, if switching to the gallery is not recognizing you.

Try adding http://*.veggieboards.com to your Internet/Trusted Sites list and see if that helps. That's under Tools / Internet Options / Security Tab

Other than that, I honestly have no idea what to suggest bud. Even when the gallery was having problems, I was still seeing everything fine with Mozilla.

I got pics!!! I did all the things you said, and it didn't help. But I logged in again from the gallery page, and it worked! (keep in mind, I had done this before and it didn't work so I still don't know what's up, except that maybe it was a combination of things....) whatever! I can check out all the pics now!!

Mahalo plenny Robert!!!

Randy.. np. I'll bet money you are using a proxy based ISP like AOL which caches everything. And that the error page you originally received a few days ago is still stuck in their proxy cache so it keeps serving you the error page.

Either that, or the cookie that keeps you logged in here (on VB) is not recognizing you when you go to the gallery.

i always have to log in seperate for the gallery.

There's only one here who is truly special to me and that person knows who they are. :)

Yeah, Robert, I am using AOL (don't get me started, I hate it, but it's the only ISP available here that doesn't need a credit card ).... I should have known that was the problem... when all else fails, blame AOL!

thanx again!

The 'see all of this user's photos' feature is now fixed.

I have some incredible Alaska pictures taken on sea-kayaking, canoeing, and hiking trips that I'd like to share. I already have them scanned, but most are just a bit too many kb to put up. How do I reduce the size so I can post them? I was up 'til 3AM downloading sophisticated programs....they were beyond me...

Is there a user-friendly program I can download to resize pics?

Michael

How many pics are there? I might be able to do it for you.

Robert
06-26-03, 11:27 PM
Aksjg: in your photo editor... open up your images. There should be an option for image resize... you could make your image a bit smaller by making the width 400 pixels for example. (the height will auto proportionate in most photo editor software).

When you go to save the pics... save them as JPG and use a quality factor of 5 or 6. This might take a bit of playing around as if you use too low a quality factor, the image quality will be reduced from the higher compression ratio. But, the lower the number (quality), the smaller the file size.

Aksjg, I doubt you're using a Macintosh, but the easiest program for me to resize pics in is AppleWorks Drawings. I haven't figured out yet how to resize it to an exact measurement like for avatars, but approximate sizes are doable.

I have about 5, Michael. What do you think? I can go try Robert's suggestion (and how sweet of you to offer it, Robert- nice fella ;) )

I found some really complicated program last night....just about cried. It froze up the computer, too.

Uh....well...I'll go see what I can do. If it doesn't work, maybe you can help me out (michael)?

Michael

Sure, I'll send you my e-mail address. If you can get them here within an hour or so I can get them tonight, otherwise it will have to be tomorrow.

I'm not good in explaining things. I know Robert likes to tell people how to do it themselves but I find it easier to just do it rather than explain it. :)

Skylark: in your photo program after you set the width, OR the height... and it auto resizes proportionately... look for an option for Canvas Size and then set the exact pixels you want for width and height and then use the crop option to trim it to the exact pixels size.

Thank you, Robert  Worked out perfectly. So easy, too. I was at work and my computer there has some Kodak program....so cool :)

You should go check 'em out. Lovely AK pictures.

If you were here, I'd buy you an ice cold beer. However, you'll have to make due with these

Have fun...:naughty:
