My friend recently told me that cows with skin cancer still have all of their skin turned into leather. (even the skin cancer) I was very skeptical about this, until i went into this store called "the limited" and i saw this coat. It looked very nice, until i read the tag that said 100% leather, then i noticed some black stuff near the collar. It resembled the black crud you get when you have skin cancer. I asked a worker there about it, and she thought it was just dirt. Then she tried wiping it off, but it wouldn't come off. She wasn't sure about it, so she put it in storage to have it inspected. Then i left. Do you think it could've been skin cancer?

Probably not skin cancer, as cows have hair that protects their skin and aren't really suceptible to skin cancer. It was likely what is known as a "hide mark". Basically, it's a scar that the cow had from a bug bite, a cut or other small injury, stuff like that. Hide marks are very common and are visible on many large pieces of light colored leather (such as on furniture).
