This recipe is suitable for a: vegetarian/vegan diet.

Ingredients:
-----------------------------------------------------
1 lb tub extra firm tofu, drained and cut into about 8 slices
- then cut each slice diagonally so it's in a triangle...
1 cup (or whatever) of your favorite BBQ sauce

1 package, or "roll" or "tube" (16 oz) prepared polenta, cut into 12 slices
1/4 cup WW or white flour
1/4 tsp each granulated garlic, salt, and black pepper
2 TB extra virgin olive oil

Instructions:
-----------------------------------------------------
Preheat oven to 400°F.
In a baking dish, arrange tofu in a single layer.
Coat the tofu completely with the BBQ sauce.
Bake for 30 minutes or until sauce gets a dark, "glazed look" and the tofu starts to be almost chewy - Don't let it burn or get dried out though....

Meanwhile, mix the flour with the salt, pepper, etc. in a bowl and dredge (coat) each slice of polenta in flour mixture.
Heat the olive oil over medium low and lightly brown the polenta until a bit crispy on the edges... about 5 - 7 minutes on each side. Remove to a paper towel and drain.

Remove tofu from oven.
To serve, place about 3 pieces of polenta on a plate. Top with 3 or 4 triangles of tofu.

Serve extra sauce - heated - on the side, if you want - I know I like mine pretty "sauce-y".

Additional comments:

Made this for my VERY-OMNI bro-in-law last night... he had three servings!! YAY!!

The tofu is also KILLER in a BBQ Tofu sandwich but I'll save that for another post...

OMG.... thats creepy... I make BBQ tofu and polenta the EXACT SAME WAY.... I bake for 45 minutes usually though, to dry the tofu out a little more (note - my oven always takes longer than recipes say).

I serve this usually, btw, with a simple fruit salad on the side ;-)

This was really, really good! I just had it for dinner tonight! I didn't have any polenta on hand, so I just had the tofu part of the dish. But still, this is awesome!

OMG, you gave to get the polenta! It goes together sooooo well, and makes the tofu like 67786481693871658743 times better!

*(Does a happy dance*) :bobo: :vebo:

So glad you like our recipe!

The first time I had tofu done like this was when Froggy made me a BBQ Tofu sandwich... it was AWESOME!! I didn't think about adding the polenta (which I happen to LOVE) until later.

I just wish he was here to make it for me, his tofu always turns out better than mine for some reason...

This is similar to a barbeque I make - but think it will be better since I've using tempeh instead of the tofu. Mine is a bit chewy. I do make a good cole slaw with vegan mayo, white vinegar, and cane sugar. Mix equal parts of the mayo and vinegar and add sugar to taste. A bit of salt & pepper and pour over your shredded cabbage. Mix and let sit for about 15 minutes to soften. This will be wonderful on the barbeque sandwich!

Don't hate me for asking, but what exactly is polenta?

kahlk25: Questions are always welcome!
Polenta is basically cooked cornmeal (cooks to the consistancy of grits or hot cereal) then it is put in a mold and cooled till firm. Then you slice it and fry it. MMMM yumminess...

You can buy it already cooked and cooled in long "tube" or "log" shapes and simply slice and fry - very cheap, tasty and the cornmeal is a whole grain.

A 3 pointer for TNS!

-1st Tofu meal I ever made
-1st polenta meal I ever made

-They (management at work) brought in BBQ late last week to "Thank" the office for a jorb well done. I had only started eating lower on the food chain just a very short time, so the BBQ was very tempting. To help counter the thought I searched on VB for a BBQ receipe while eating the coleslaw.

Thanks for posting this!

Now I can start fine tuning my tofu tastes...I think I cut it just a little too thick...
