At least it was at my local one. The nice big 32 oz. bottles for $2 each. That's quite a deal for decent shampoo. And many varieties are vegan.

TreSemme lists on their products that they do not conduct testing on animals.

They don't test on animals-but, they do have animal ingredients. I e-mailed them about it:

Case 95891

Dear Julie,

Thank you for contacting Alberto Culver regarding your interest in our company and its products. We are happy to supply you with the information that you have requested.

In regards to your query on animal ingredients, Hydrolyzed animal protein, collagen, and elastin are by-products of the meat processing industry, but none are pork derived. Animals are not killed for obtaining these ingredients.

Our products are not tested on animals.

We hope this information is helpful. Thank you again for contacting Alberto Culver.

Sincerely,

Karen Stewart

Animals are not killed for obtaining these ingredients.

:stinkeye: Oh? How do they remove elastin, collagen, or animal protein without killing the animal? Maybe they meant that by-products are not the primary reason the animals are killed.

Tresemme may not test on animals, but the providers of the ingredients more than likely do.

I believe that this situation is liike Proctor and Gamble - they have individual product lines that they don't test on animals, but the parent company runs animal tests on various other lines in their possession. Thus, many people don't buy P and G products, even the lines that are not directly animal tested. It seems to me that the parent company of Tresemme, Alberto Culver, runs tests on animals, according to various lists.

There are other hair products owned by parent companies who either philosophically or for practical reasons do not test on animals.
